Guest guest
Randy, I agree with you. Actually there is already a warm and fuzzy site with little or no information: DS_PostOP_Friends, so I think we should keep this site as a place for open discussion rather than for therapy. To me support does not imply cyber-hugs. Would I be supporting a person considering RNY by telling them to go ahead with it blindly? For me this is a place for exchanging information. Having said that, I think it is important for everyone to keep things cival and stay away from personal attacks. I also agree with 's post about patients being attached to their surgeons. In fact, I think it is a bit of a religious thing. The parallels are amazing. Think about it: " He who belives me will be given a new life " . For many their surgeon really is God. I don't mean to be blasphamous, but consider what the Jews though of Jesus in his day. The sense of being born again is strong with this surgery. I want everyone to know that my dissapointment in and Ren's decision are not a critacism of anyone who chooses them as surgeons. And yes they have the right to do what they want in a free society. But, I feel it is unethical to tell a patient two days before surgery that her procedure is being changed! If they don't want to help new patients, OK. But the idea that I can walk across the street and find another DS surgeon ONLY applies in San Francisco! Also, it took months for me to get a consultation appoitnment. I would have considered it dishonest for a surgeon to accept an appointment under the guise of being a DS surgeon and then finding out that they only did the Scopinaro procedure. I would be pissed! I think surgeons should grandfather in anyone who has made an appointment with them prior to their public announcement that they will no longer do the DS. Of course they should be given the option of doing the BPD only, but if they want the DS they should get it. It sounds like Ren is taking this sort of approach and I respect her for that, though I would not choose her as a surgeon. I am really shocked at 's way of handling things. Thank good Dr. Anthone is so commited to the DS! Hull > >I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!! PLEASE TAKE YOUR FIGHTS OUT OF THE > GROUP!!!!!!!!!!! > > > If the fights are going to be banned from this group, let's please at least make another list called, say, DS-Fights. > > I for one find the " fights " enormously informative. Although I understand the support role of the list, as a pre-op I spend much more time on reading disagreements about the finer points of the DS and the surgeons performing them, than, say, e-mailed hugs. > > It's often an impassioned viewpoint that is the most informative. One can get statistics and dry facts from plenty of web sites. I'd be missing an entire dimension of the subject without the (much appreciated) willingness of list members to engage in heated discussion. > > --Randy > > > > >
