Guest guest
Hi Janet, yes, unfortunatly there is hidden gluten in shampoo, toothpaste, handsoap, dish & laundry detergent. I know off the top of my head that Tide & Downy are safe. I believe Dawn dish soap is too. Sorry I can't find my list right now. Oh, also I " think " Crayola brand playdough and fingerpaints as well as Elmer's glue are all GFCF also. Hope this helps a little. What about sun tan lotion, soap, laundry detergent, etc.? > > Janet in IL Hi Janet - I have told this story before, but it is worth repeating. Our absolute worst regression was from Playdoh. My son did not eat it - I was watching carefully. What he did was press it into his skin, under his chin. I thought it was some kind of a stim, but I think the kid knows his drug when he smells, touches or see it! It tooks us days to figure out why he broke out in eczema and was a spacey, disconnected, non-verbal kid again after so much progress. When we figured out that he had gotten gluten through his skin we were shocked. When you think about it, it really isn't that strange. We use a nicotine patch when we are trying to quit smoking - you don't eat that do you? Anyway - I felt like such an idiot for letting him play with the stuff in the first place. After I stopped beating myself up, I went through all of our products, soap, toothpaste, shampoo, sunscreen, laundry detergent, and I only use the stuff on the GFCFdiet.com list. I have heard a story of a child drinking her mother's liquid make-up because it had gluten in it. I am almost convinced that my son can smell it. Once, when we were in a diner and the waiter had served me a burger with a side of ketchup in a dish. My son leaned over the dish and said, " What's that smell? " Then he said he wanted the " Red " - strange. Moira mom to Vico (4.5 ASD and recovering gluten junkie) and Culzean 18 months

The crayons and the glue you mention above are safe. But there is no commercially made playdoh that I am aware of that isn't made with wheat flour. In otherwords - you have to make your own. Crayola Model Magic is safe and aparently it will harden if left out, which could be a plus if you want to save the art work, or a minus, if you forget to put it away. Guest guest
Oh yeah, and keep the dog food up. The first few weeks, I would find Jane crawling up a chair to get to the cupboard where the dog food was. that's after I moved it when I saw her sitting and eating handfuls from the dog's bowl. Guest guest
> I just have to agree aon the point-they are like addicts to gluten - my son gfcf for a year now actually picked a wrapper from my hamburger out of the GARBAGE and ate it last night. Unbelievable but he could smell the gluten left on that wrapper even after a year with out.F I am telling you all our kids are missing is the track marks... My boy was a junkie. You know, as soon as we started thinking of gluten as his drug, it got easier to take it away. I mean, you wouldn't give your kid heroine would you? Unless you're Love or something... Guest guest
* Most peoples microwaves are splattered on the top from food and when you use it to heat your little ones food these splatters can go onto the plate. I ALWAYS cover ALL food in the micro. Also toasters can share crumbs. Never use the same knife you cut your sandwich with to cut your GFCFer So besides hidden gluten there are these risks of cross contamination. in New York (LJs mom) * On Tue, 30 Oct 2001 16:09:56 -0600 " Janet Kalbhen " writes: > I know there are many possible sources of hidden gluten.
