Colonial Dr Orlando FL 32817 Dear Sir: Last Tuesday, October the 2nd my family and I visited the Waffle House restaurant and we had such a sad experience that I need to share it with you. It was around 9:30 am when we got into the restaurant. The service was excellent as always; we have been customers a long time ago, until that day. We have two autistic children out of four and they are on a special gluten, casein, wheat and lactose free diet. That means that they cannot eat practically nothing that Waffle House has in their menu. So we decided to bring along our own wheat free waffles so that our 4-year autistic son would be able to enjoy his breakfast with me, my wife and our oldest daughter, who is not autistic. I was out of the restaurant looking for some cash when my wife asked if they could please warm my son’s waffles while she ordered breakfast for the three of us. A lady, apparently the manager, told her that they were going to do that favor but we were not allowed to do it again. We were stunned and shocked because my wife explained to her our son’s condition and besides, we were consuming three breakfasts. What a way to do business! It was very upsetting. But that is not the point. You see, there are many of these kids out there who need to be considered; and prohibiting them to consume their diet keeps them from enjoying such special moments as breakfasts with their families. I believe that the Waffle House management will be more than insensible to ignore these needs and I hope that in the future they would never treat autistic persons that way. As for my family and me, we will never go there again. Sincerely, J. Hernández 15005 Island Bay Dr Apt104 Orlando FL 32828 Cc: Dan Hogs Orlando Sentinel Marketing Dept. Get more from the Web. Guest guest
We had the same type of experience at the Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse in Independence, Missouri. The owner told us that he would let us bring in food for our son that one time, but never again. Needless to say, we haven't gone back, nor have any of my relatives. You know, it might not be a bad idea to let everyone know where we have trouble bring our GFCF food. Then people can call those restaurants in advance to make sure they will be safe in case they should decide to go there. Or, and I like this idea, we can flood them with calls and berate them for it. ===== __________________________________________________
