Guest guest
I think shaving her head would be a bad idea. First of all, aside from the whole helmet issue, she's only 7 months old, and I just wouln't feel comfortable shaving her delicate soft baby skin, even with just an electric razor. The sweating should start getting better right about now, it takes a week or two for the body to regulate it's temperature. Definitely continue to dress her a season lighter than you would without the band to keep her cool. The rash is most likely heat rash and isn't harmful. I think the hair actually helps protect their skin from the sweat. My son's grew to be pretty long while he had his bands and it looked cute flopping out of the top opening. Good luck! Guest guest
There are many cultures where shaving a babies head is routine, in part to make the " hair grow thicker " . So I think it is fine if you want to do it. Also my daughter lost nearly all hair in her starband and it didn't cause any problem (this happens to something like 10% of banded babies from what our ortho said). However she should adjust to the band without shaving her head. Take the band off a few times a day and wipe both her head and the band dry with a towel. Also dress her very lightly and keep her cool to help eliminate heat rash. Use gentle shampoo, and make sure the band is dry before putting it back on (her hair too). One thing we found is my daughter couldn't wear socks the entire time in her band - if she did she would be too warm. -christine sydney, almost 3 yrs, starband grad > > > > Hi everyone. Guest guest
My ortho told me not to even cut my son's hair very much because it would irritate him even more. I would strongly recommend against doing it. At least talk to your ortho. There is always an adjustment period with the helmet where the babies initially sweat like crazy. It gets better once their bodies acclimate. Good luck! > > Hi everyone.
