Yay! The new vest for my 2.5 yr old wcf arrives tomorrow. I am

supposed to get training tomorrow night but would like to see if

anyone has any tips for a toddler to get them acquainted with the

vest?

let your little one put it on a favorite toy or blankie, turn it on and

everything. My daughter loves to give vest to her dolls and her blanket. Also

let your little one wear the vest before the trainer comes out. hook it up and

turn it on very low for a minute. adjusted very quickly but she was

four when she got it. Good luck and HOORRRRAAAAYYY!!!!

Shaelin is 2 1/2 and we are 2 weeks into our 30 day trial. We bought

the book " Taking Cystic Fibrosis to School " which shows a girl

wearing the vest and read it a few times before he tried it. I tried

buying a new animal game for him to use while using the vest but he

has gone back to just watching TV. His favorite show at the moment

is Little Bear and we make him wait to watch it until he is wearing

the vest.

He had done great with it. He is currently sick so we are up to 15

minutes, 3 times/day. We could have never done this with CPT!

We had Patti wear hers for a few minutes and then let her sisters and brother

wear it for a few minutes. After that we gradually increased the time,

frequency and pressure over the next couple of weeks until we got it to where we

wanted it. The big kids still tell her it's cool, so it is. ;-) We also tried

to give her an option of what she wanted to play while doing the vest. She now

loves to play with her doll house or farm set while doing it.

Something else people may not have mentioned is that it might help for your

toddler to wear a sweatshirt over his regular shirt when doing the vest. It

helps Patti's fit better, and it keeps it from hurting her tummy.

Hi Jeanne;

For 17 years we have done CPT a minimum of twice a day for 30 minutes a

session (after nebulizers). It means early mornings and sometimes later

nights but my son is at school by 8:15 a.m. and has rarely been late. It

started out as non-negotiable in our minds and is not skipped even when

travelling. We don't have easy access to a vest ... it would be out of our

own pocket with additional cross-border costs. Ya do what ya gotta do.

Eventually it becomes 'routine'.

Oops - I sent my last message before wishing you luck with the new vest for

Shaelin. I am glad you are able to get it and hope it continues to work out

well. I think it would be great to have the parents' freedom from CPT. My

message was just to point out that the vest doesn't work for all or isn't

available to all and yet we can still manage what we need to do.
