I read someone posted about designing a band for a face mask. I am just

wondering how many of us has invented or designed something since the CF dx for

people who have health problems?

I invented/designed a few things My favorite is the jammies for when someone

is in the hospital or on home IV's that offers easy access to the port/picc

while remaining closed yet you can still get dirtied jammies off without

stopping the IV and unhooking. I also thought up sippy cups with oz marks on

them and onsies with openings of ports and g-tubes

anyone else with good ideas?

How did you do this? Make a " flap " ?

Since I never know where they would end up having to put the IV or picc line, I

put snaps all around the thing! from neckline to cuff, from inner cuff to

armpit, from armpit to hem on both sides of the top and waist to cuff then

inside cuff to crotch on both sides of the bottom. Essentially I made a front

half and a back half of each garment and put it together with snaps. I chose

snaps instead of velcro for a few reasons, kids pull velcro (it's easy and it

makes an entertaining sound!) and it is not sturdy enough to stay closed with

repeated uses for older kids or adults.

This way if the person throws up all over themselves or something it is easy

to get the jammies off without undoing IV's and stuff. I did it for the bottoms

too thinking that if it was for someone who is bedridden (or a baby) the pants

would be easier to take off as well, also had an IV in her foot when she

was first dx'd and darned if she didn't have bowel movements that leaked as soon

as they hooked her up to the tpn in her foot or sometimes just a regular diaper

change was hard with the bottoms that would hang on the tubing and pull at her

IV!! Or she would barf right after she was hooked up to the one in her arm.

They really would've been a great help to have had the jammies the first time we

were in! Also having the snaps allows you to close up the shirt and let the

line out without clamping or kinking the line. I can list 101 uses for sick

people with these jammies ie: people with casts, anyone who is

bedridden...........

I did have the idea of the flap with the onsies. When would fall asleep

before she had her tube feed she would always wake up when I tried to hook her

up because I would have to stick my hand down her pants or pull 'em down to undo

the onsie. I liked using the onsie though because I felt like the g-tube was

less likely to get pulled out if it was covered when not in use...... So I

thought that a flap would be good for this. As I learned more about different

illnesses I found out that a lot of very small babies also have ports and a

onsie for the port would be great!
