Guest guest
Hello everyone. I wanted to let you all know how our In Vitro with Pre Implantation Genetic Diagnosis is going. Our 2.5yr old son has CF and my dh and I decided that we didn't want another child to suffer so we chose to use modern technology. I had 13 eggs retreived from my HUGE (ie painful) ovaries yesterday. YAY! More than we had thought. Now the genetic testing team is testing the eggs for my CF mutation (Delta F508) and if they don't find it, they will then test the 3 day old embryo for other problems (Down's, trisomy, gender, etc). If they do find my CF mutation, they will test the 3 day embryo for my husband's mutation. Either way, we will know for sure about CF but about half of the them we will know about other chromosomal problems. We have to wait 5 days for results and to see how many embryos survive. Statistically, only 20-30% of embryos survive 5 days in a petri dish. We just hope we have some healthy ones to put back in me and maybe freeze some others. This technology is amazing and we hope it helps us have a healthy, CF free baby (or two!).
Guest guest
This is very cool. I know there are some people who say this is a bad thing, but they have never had to take care of a child with a life threatening illness. This is only one means to start to eradicate this terrible disease. Tina W., mother of 17yoa wcf In Vitro update Hello everyone. Guest guest
, I had only 6 eggs when we did it. Didn't hurt though as I was asleep when they retrieved them, were you? Guest guest
I was pretty much asleep after they put in the ultrasound wand but I am in a lot of pain now--hurts to laugh and sneeze. Guest guest
I am looking forward to hearing how this goes--such unbelievable things technology can do now! My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. Guest guest
, Out of the 6 eggs 3 had cf, two were carriers and 1 undetermined. So we decided to use the carriers. But after they were defrosted they died. So after all that we ended up with no usable embryos. The PGD Specialist did say the embryos that had cf were the biggest and juiciest he'd ever seen, which would have made them great to use except for the cf of course. I wish you and your embryos the best of luck. In Vitro update > > > Hello everyone. I wanted to let you all know how our In Vitro with > Pre Implantation Genetic Diagnosis is going.
