Question about meds and the compressors

Anyone else have problems with their compressor getting " gummed up " after

awhile? We change filters regularly, but with him using Mucomyst

(acetylcysteine solution) in his nebs, not only the compressor gets icky, so

does EVERYTHING ELSE! We just got this neb compressor about 8-10 months ago,

and after only 6 months, it started working really crappy--instead of his neb

taking about 30 minutes, it takes at least an hour to get it all done! I sent

it in to get clean, but $50 later, it still works like #$%@%! So I'm sending it

in to the company, as it's under a 5-year warranty, but that is so irritating!

Any advice on anything you guys do would be MUCH appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Does it happen to be a Duraneb 3000? We find ours slow ... always have, but

it has gotten worse. It works a little faster on household electricity than

on the battery power.

If the mucomyst is clogging it, would it help to set the compressor under a

table or some other protection from mist settling on it? I know you would

still need good air circulation to it so it doesn't take even longer. I am

assuming it is settling on the compressor and vent as it should not be

backing up into the machine.

I wonder if running an air cleaner (with HEPA filter) at the same time and

for awhile afterwards (unfortunately more noise) might help draw some of the

airborne med away from the compressor and other furniture and items in the

house.

It's a SportNeb from Medical Industries America Inc. We do have it in a

cabinet (with plenty of air circulation around it, though) to keep it from

getting too much of the mist back in it. We also have it a ways away by

using an extra long tubing that they give us, but it doesn't seem to help

much. I did think about the HEPA filter idea, but wondered if that would

clog up just as fast, too? It gets so frustrating, but he needs the

mucomyst to keep his lungs clear. Pulmozyme made his throat really sore,

and caused a major nagging cough that was constantly there, so they took him

off of that and put him back on the mucomyst. We tried just using saline

and albuterol for awhile, but he started getting kind of junked up, so we

had to restart the mucomyst. And man oh MAN--does that stuff stink!!! LOL

LOL It stinks up the entire main floor of the house while he's doing

treatment, and when I go to wash down the office (where he does treatment),

it's like " rehydrating " the smell!!! LOL LOL I REALLY hate it, but it does

what we need it to do!

Thanks, !
