Guest guest
Dear Chrissy, Just an snippet! I know you may not have the TP now and I also know that you are worried about diabetes. (You can find this yourself by following through links in the " What's Coming Down the Duct? " section on the PAI Home Page.) There's a report of the annual meeting of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain last November in Southampton. There were pancreatologists from all over the world. A group (including, as it happens, BOTH my gastro AND my pancreatologist...but that's by the way) undertook a survey of TP patients to see what diabetic control was like following surgery. They found that it was generally excellent, good or fair (in that order) and that brittle diabetes is not necessarily a consequence of TP. And remember that this is WITHOUT ICT which would obviously give various degrees of protection against diabetes anyway, from complete to partial, depending on different factors. I have also heard Dr Sutherland say similar things. Obviously, he does advocate ICT always. Just thought this might be a bit reassuring. I found it so and I will be less worried on that score if I do end up having a TP. Prof had already told me that most patients are OK with diabetes after the TP (although there is a small but real risk of brittleness) but seeing this study in print added to my feeling of reassurance! (Obviously, some patients are already brittle before the surgery and some are " non-compliant " , ie, don't follow instructions!) I had a very good Mothers' Day! The ballet last night was just fantastic, one of best I've ever seen. My older son and his wife have left now to go to Manchester, where my DiL's family live, to see her mother as well. They have to go back to London this evening so it's been a flying visit to both families but this time we got last night as well! They're always very fair to both families. We were up till 4.15am last night so I'm not following my own advice to myself to get more sleep! Silly older son left mobile phone here when they went off to Manchester so Jim will meet him at a motorway services between Liverpool and Manchester to return it!! They'll be late home otherwise. Well.....!! Jim's retired, he has time now! Take care! With good wishes, Fliss
