Guest guest
Hi Deanna, I did mention Antox but I don't know a great deal about it! It was developed here in the UK at the Manchester Royal Infirmary in the 1990's. The doctor was Dr Joan Braganza but she isn't at the hospital any more. The claim was that the trials indicated that patients who took Antox had less pain and ended up needing less surgery than those who did not. I don't know which category or categories of patients were selected for the trials. The theory was presumably that antioxidants, in preventing free radical damage, give a measure of protection against inflammation, in this case inflammation of the pancreas, ie pancreatitis. I haven't read enough about it to know how the specific antioxidants and the doses were arrived at. I was diagnosed in Liverpool (only 45 mins drive from Manchester!) last year. My own consultant does not advocate the Antox treatment and I have not had it prescribed. I know that the manufacturers, Pharmanord, have just involved several hospitals in fresh trials. The Royal Liverpool Hospital isn't one of them. Tony Crispin, the British PAI rep, is going to a Pharmanord meeting soon. It is an expensive treatment and I couldn't readily afford it unless it was prescribed for me, in which case I would get it at a fraction of the commercial price. The system here in the UK is that, once you are referred to a consultant, s/he writes to your GP with the recommended treatment who will then obviously prescribe whatever the specialist advises. Without a prescription, which gives all medications at a greatly reduced price (free for certain categories of patient, including diabetics), I would have to buy it. The last time I looked it was not far off £100 a month. Heidi takes it and finds that it does her good. She is able to buy all the separate elements in the health shop and this makes the price better. One of the ingredients, Methionone, is now difficult to find here. (Ironic since the treatment was developed in Manchester!!) I'm sure she'll read these posts and tell you more. Alternatively, you could type " Antox " in the Search box and find past posts on it. I have just started taking an antioxidant preparation which I buy in the chemist's. It isn't the same proportions as in Antox itself but it's great deal cheaper! Good luck if you decide to try it! With good wishes, Fliss
