Guest guest
Becky, I understand your concern about flying, and as a parent of an adult child with CF, I thank you for thinking of others and not wishing to expose them to B. cepacia. I also understand why you're so angry. Life really seems to be frustrating these days and the disappointing news that Make A Wish won't accomodate your travel request seems like one more straw to add to the pack. Below is a link to a page of other organizations that grant children's wishes. Make A Wish isn't the last hope. My son's CF doctor contacted The Brass Ring Society in 1992 and they planned an amazing and memorable event for my son. The Brass Ring Society didn't give an opportunity to choose his own " wish " -- but that was only because when 's doctor contacted the BRS, he told them that he had a special patient who loved baseball, who idolized (former Mets catcher) , and he wanted to know if the BRS could arrange something around and baseball. The BRS flew us the entire family to Florida during spring training during the Florida Marlins inaugrual year. had just retired from baseball and was the Marlin's announcer. got to meet and the team, and was a batboy for one of their practices. The BRS provided wonderful hotel accomodations for seven days (the hotel had a basket of fruit and welcoming note in our room, and we got free buffet breakfast every morning); the rental car place provided a brand new mini van to drive for the week, the BRS provided about 10 rolls of film and told us to send the film after the trip so they could develop it and send us all copies. The BRS also provided tickets to Disney World, Epcot, and Sea World (the kids liked that best), and gave us $300 to use for food/souvenirs. This BRS has even bought winter coats for kids who live in the south, whose wish it is to go north to see snow for the first time. My point is, this is an organization that believes in not tooting it's own horn, they're there for the kids. I'm sure if you explain why you cannot allow Rebecah to fly, they'll do whatever is within their means to get you a rental van if that's what your family needs to fulfill Rebebah's wish. Remember what the conqueror Hanibal said, " We will find a way, or we will make our own.
