Guest guest
Hi, my name is . Our DS Evan is 3.5 yrs old. He has been casein-free since December 2004 and he is extremely reactive to it. We did a four-month gluten-free trial and then put it back in with no changes. He is also allergic to eggs and chicken. I'm looking at SCD because I feel like his problems related to yeast and the mood swings and tantrums that come with it are a problem that our entire family revolves around, and I just want to get rid of it. He requires large amounts of probiotics each day just to be stable, but we've been doing that for a year with no real improvements, just holding the line, and the yeast always flares up right away if we let up a little bit. I have read Breaking the Vicous Cycle, and I just read Gut and Psychology Syndrome last week. I am hoping SCD can help him. I am just getting started with trying to figure out how to make some baked goods that will fit the diet. I will have to do them with no dairy, no eggs, and I do not want to include nuts in his diet on a regular basis due to his current tendency to develop allergies. I tried some muffins made from squash, navy beans, coconut oil, and honey yesterday, and let's just say they didn't work out too well ! I have been advised by a friend that I can use coconut flour, and I saw on the website that I can use gelatin as a legal egg replacer. If anyone else has any tips they can share on doing the baking without dairy, eggs, or nuts, I would appreciate it. Also, I read on the legal/illegal list that fluid milk of any kind is illegal. Is there any chance that breastmilk would be an exception ? He still nurses a little and I really don't want to have to wean him to do this diet because it seems that nursing is one of the things that helps keep his yeast under control right now, and it's also a good way to settle him down when he gets out of hand, which is often. If it's possible to have him on SCD without weaning, then would I need to go SCD as well ? I'm already casein-free and egg-free and I don't consume chicken or anything else he can't have - and when he was GF, I was too - so I'm used to going along with whatever diet he is on when I need to. I could not find anything specifically about breastmilk on the website. Thank you, B.
