Guest guest
Dear Merika, Have I sent you SCD Pals where you live? Let me know if you would like this information, please. This is my job on the pecanbread list serve. grammy_bauer@... Put my email address in your contact list for a reply off list, please. To save archives space. 1. On Elaine's Website dairy is on :The Introductory Diet http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/the_intro_diet2.htm and it is okay to use it at this time. If you can not find the DCCC you can use the yogurt dripped in the recipes. A wonderful Cheesecake. Keep a journal of the foods eaten and trips to the bathroom. The stages diet you see on is for children who are autism and can not tolerate the yogurt at the beginning of the diet. And so many of the children have been dairy free for serveral years before finding the SC Diet. 2. Cooked fruits and vegetables are to be tried after diarrhea and cramping has subsided. On page 69 in BTVC.... [Which can be gotten from the librar or from http://www.scdiet.com/] Do not use the vegetables in the cabbage family till you have healed more...then later you can eat them. Then on page 80 in BTVC is a sample day's menu to use. >You asked: Why wouldn't I start them at the same time? Or would I? 3. I say a lifetime. At least it will be for me. And if you have a stressful time in your life.... go back to the beginning with Lyo-san caps with meals from *Lucy's Kitchen Shop http://www.scdkitchen.com/raman.html <Rosset@... WA. I had to get some Digestive Gold Enzymes [LEGAL ENZYMES on: http://www.pecanbread.com/supplements.html Houston Nutraceuticals, Inc. And I began to get better right away. My husband died and that is what caused my stress and Crohn's Disease to flare up. 4. Lots of energy, feeling so much better. My story with Crohn's Disease http://www.scdiet.net/testimonial.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Merika " Merika " Merika@... I've looked at the pecanbread site, and the handy stage 1-5 chart. A few questions: 1-There's no mention of dairy. Is all allowable dairy okay from the beginning? And what about the initial 2-5 day diet - is dairy ok then too? We currently eat dairy and are fine with it. 2-On the fruits and veggies, I can see why some would be later than others such as little tiny seeds in strawberries not really being able to deseed them, and the cabbage and onion family being later, but are most fruits/veggies listed in that order because in general people tolerate them in that order? For example, I know I'm ok with eggplant (stage 3) and mushroom (2). Why wouldn't I start them at the same time? Or would I? 3-I know that the diet is highly individual, but is there a general idea someone could give me on how long a stage might last? 4-What symptoms have you noticed going away as you've gotten better, that you might be able to use as a guideline besides the diahrea? I ask because I don't have any, but my gut is plenty messed up from celiac. Any other easy-to-read markers that might be useful for me to note? Guest guest
Merika, The Stages chart is only meant to be a general guideline, for people who really do not have any idea what foods are *generally* easier to digest than others. We just got so, so many inquiries from parents on " What foods should I start with? " , that Jody decided to kind of chart it out that way... for those who have an easier time learning something in a visual format. Cooked foods are almost across the board easier to digest than raw (except ripe banana and avacado). Everything is HIGHLY individualized... and there is really no way for us to tell you " how long " a stage lasts. There's really no such thing, in a way.... you simply must go by how your body is doing. If you have a return of symptoms, it's likely you need to step back....and go with foods that are easier to digest. Some people might NEVER be able to tolerate cabbage family foods.... or maybe only after a couple of years on SCD. Others might do fine with those after only a few months. For you, if you don't have... and never have had... any diarrhea, obviously that's not an idicator of how you're doing. You have to go by what your symptoms are. After all, how did you know you were sick in the first place? What symptoms did you have? You must have some.... or you wouldn't be here in the first place. For one person, it might be gut cramping or bloating.... for someone else, it might be headaches, seizures, or achey joints... that tell them something is " off " in their digestive system. patti new to diet - cheese? fruit? ??? Guest guest
Thanks, Patti. That clarifies things. And I do have symtoms, oh let me count the ways, lol, but nothing that seems as clear or time-sensitive as D. Maybe once on the diet, I'll find a good indicator for myself. (I'm off to see the midwife this week, and ask her about how to best handle " die-off " while preggo. Meanwhile, I'm testing some of the recipes and mentally preparing myself, figuring out what needs to get thrown out & what needs to get purchased.) Guest guest
By the way, I just ordered an scd prenatal from Kirkman. You might want to check it out. It was only $9 for 200ct. The other cool thing is that they are capsules that can be swallowed whole or opened to mix the contents into food or drink. I can tell you that some of my friends that gag easily while pregnant are going to be ordering these, and they're not even scd. Meleah Re: new to diet - cheese? fruit? ??? > Thanks, Patti. I started other cheese at week 2, yogurt the following week The Stages did not exist when I started and are not used by adults as a rule as they only appear on Pecanbread. Follow the intro diet exactly as it is outlined in the book. Foods should be started individually and noted in a food log for effects. I would start one of those two vegetables one week later or at least a few days later. Each person is different. You may experience die off at first but you will know improvement when iit begins to happen. For me it was freedom from extreme pain after every meal. Carool F.
