Guest guest
Welcome- We did not use Hanger, we used Cranial Tech in Charlotte (we live in Raleigh), but I wanted to ask when was he scanned/casted for the helmet? Without knowing, I can't say for sure, but I'm concerned that they are pushing your appointment back until Thursday. The turnaround for fabricating any helmet (regardless of brand) should be no more than 2 weeks, because it could result in a pour fit from too much head growth during the wait. If it's less than 2 weeks, you're fine, but when you said they were pushing you back almost a whole week, it sent up a red flag to me so I just wanted to check. As far as decorating, I usually painted first (the DOCBand only comes in white), then did stickers then did mod podge, but you can just do stickers and then mod podge. Yes, you can just peel it all off, the mod podge goes on like white elmer's glue and then dries clear, put a couple of coats and it gives you a thicker layer which makes it easier to peel off later. I would suggest avoiding paper backed stickers (use clear ones instead), as they're really hard to peel off (though you may be able to put a layer of mod podge first, then the stickers, which would put a barrier between the paper and the plastic). I know people have used rub ons and I've used vinyl stickers with great success. Also, for those that may be interested, football season is coming up and I did a number of football helmet designs for my son using colored electrical tape for the center stripe (which you can get at Lowe's or Home Depot). Good luck! Jake-2.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) Jordan-5.5 > > Hi folks, > We have a 16wk. old beautiful baby boy (yes boys are beautiful too). I deliverd at 37 wks. after 2 solid hrs. of pushing and vacuum assitance. He was diagnosed with toritcollis at his 2 mo. checkup and the pediatrician set us up with a physical therapist to work on the toricollis and hopefully correct or at least prevent worsening of his plagio. His tort. is improving and he's got really good range of motion. His plagio however didn't change as much as we'd hoped. The physical therapist gave us several options for banding companies. She'd seen good results with Hanger in sville, NC and they are a little more convenient for us. Not that convenience is the deciding factor, but I used all my sick time and then some due to bed rest and my husband and I both work...so trying to make it to Cranial Tech. in Charlotte by 5 pm on a regular basis seemed like a daunting tasks. We went to Hanger for a consult and found out that his deviation is 15 mm. We were pleasantly surprised that BCBS of NC is covering 80% (once we meet deduct.) We were supposed to go for his first fitting today, but there was a delay in getting his band here and will go next Thur. In the mean time, I've found much help and support here simply by reading (this is my first post). Thanks in advance to you all. I think decorating the band will help make it a little easier to deal with. I know banding is the right thing to do, I'm just not wanting to deal with all the stares and questions. So after all the excessive details, here are my 2 main questions: > - Have any of you dealt with Hanger in sville (or other locations)? Would love to hear any experiences, good, hopefully none bad. > - Tips on decorating with stickers- I'd like to change regularly. What's the deal with Modpodge? Can you remove it to change? I have some rub ons, wall decals and stickers from s. > > Thanks again! >
Guest guest
Hello, Welcome to the group! My son is about a month into a Hanger band. We are having amazing results. He has almost all brachy with a very small plagio. I would not have even banded for his plagio alone. His plagio is already gone and I am very pleased with how his head looks. I can't speak for the Hanger location around you, but we are having great luck. Good Luck > > Hi folks, > We have a 16wk. old beautiful baby boy (yes boys are beautiful too). Guest guest
, I used vellum stickers from s and Hobby Lobby for my daughter's band. After applying the stickers, I put clear nail polish over the stickers and around the edges. I've had great luck with this technique. She's been in her band for 8 weeks and we've only gone through 2 rounds of stickers. I think I'm going to change her stickers this weekend even though they are holding up great! When you go to change the stickers, just use the same 91% alcohol on the outside of the band as you use to clean the inside. Best of luck! Guest guest
Hi , Congratulations on getting BCBS to cover 80%. They have denied covering my son's band so we are going to appeal. My son is almost 4 months, has tort as well, and will get his band this Friday. Good luck with your band journey - and forget what other people think about the band on your boy. He's YOUR boy and what they think/say matters not! - , mom to 3 1/2 yo Ashlin, 3 1/2 mo > > > > Hi folks, > > We have a 16wk. old beautiful baby boy (yes boys are beautiful too).
