If anybody know how this drug works, let me know. I know its somatatstatin )sp?) and even looked it all up and still dont quite get it. Hi : I took Octreotide also before I had my pancreas removed. It did help me to eat but left me with a painful side effect. I had to stop taking it due to terrible chest pain. I had my pancreatectomy and ICT Dec. 2000. I took the Octreotide 1998. I continue to have chest pain especially when I am tired or weak. The pain continues for weeks. The only way I can stop the chest pain is to rest every day for quite a long time. Last week my left arm was numb for a short time. The doctor says that I don't have any clogged arteries but he did find out from the drug co. that one out of every one hundred patients develops chest pain from taking Octreotide sandostatin. I wish I had never taken it. I hope that you don't have the problems I have developed by taking it. I now have effusions on my heart. The pain doctor told me that if I didn't take the vitamins that I take I would have congestive heart failure. I don't believe my cardiologist when he tells me that my heart if fine. The pain is so terrible. My chest hurts, the pain goes up into my throat and jaw. Across my chest. I have pain in the center of my chest and pressure. It is frightening. I was told that the Octreotide dries up the pancreas. I guess that means that less enzymes are expelled from the pancreas. Good luck and I am so happy that you are feeling better. Guest guest
Last week I had yet another ocreotide injection. I has been about 5 weeks. This had been 4th in a series and I am really feeling better. My apetite has improved and I have not needed any pain meds for the last 2 days. Although I have been rather sleepy, maybe from coming off the dilaudid so quickly. Slept a lot yesterday. But today have had a great family day. Lots of running on the beach and jumping through waves and cooking out the entire weekend. Well I guess I was fairly worn out by yesterday. The kids went to do the fireworks and I just snoozed away. Well I hope its the ocreotide working as I am not ready to return to Cinci any time soon. If anybody know how this drug works, let me know. I know its somatatstatin )sp?) and even looked it all up and still dont quite get it. Just hope it last for a very very long time. Hope every body is feeling well and enjoying the holiday. Tomorrow we are all back to work! Thanks
Guest guest
, octreotide (otherwise known as Sandostatin) works different for each person. I know it works on some and not on others. I was one of those it did not work for, so I am glad to see that it is working for you. I'll keep you in my prayers that it continues to work for you and I'm glad to hear that you didn't have any pain for two full days. Lets hope you can add to that.
