He may be having diarrhea from all the microbes dying off ( we call it " die off " and you'll read that term a lot on this list). Epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal may help with his die off. See http://pecanbread.com/badreaction.html Just to be on the safe side tell us exactly what he is eating including brand names (like Welch's grape juice etc..) Guest guest
OKay, right now he is eating homeade gelatin made with pure unsweetened apple juice and 2 tablespoons honey, scrambled eggs, and organic chicken. He won't touch the broth. And I am going to add goat yoghurt soon. I found a milk source and just have to go get it and make it. Is it okay to use a brand of yogurt from the store as a starter. I know it said that was okay in the book as long as it is unsweetened and plain...but which brands are okay? After I use all the pure applejuice I am going to get applecider instead. So, if he's having all this diarrhea, should I keep him on the intro diet for another couple of weeks? Thanks a lot, Trish > > Hi Trish, > > > HI, I started my son on the SCD diet 2 days ago. Guest guest
I meant to name the brands too. I am using KNOX unflavored gelatin and i'm not sure what the applejuice brand is but it came from the health food store. I know that does not mean anything but I'm thinking it is the right stuff but I am still going to switch to apple cider when it's all gone. The applejuice i'm using now is cloudy looking and tastes like it's good stuff... I admit I am nervous about this diet, this is all so new. My son had been on GF grains for a YEAR and he was also casein free, corn free, rice free... So, this is a BIG change for him and I sure do appreciate all the support! You'll need to get the apple cider or make the jello with grape juice in order to officially be on the intro diet. Goat yogurt should be made with ProGurt yogurt starter if you are wanting to stay away from cow's milk products. There are a few legal brands of yogurt that can be used as a starter, but where I live, they only come in 1 quart containers, which makes them very expensive to use as a starter since you only use a small amount of it. The ProGurt costs around 25 cents per quart if I remember correctly. And you definitely should NOT keep him on the intro diet for a few weeks. The intro diet should be just for 2-5 days total. Unsweetened apple juice is not SCD legal. Unsweetened apple cider (as per page 76 BTVC 10th edition) He won't touch the broth. And I am going to add > goat yoghurt soon. No. The intro should only be done for a maximum of 5 days. After the 5 days try some easy to digest foods: ripe banana (yellow with spots, homemade applesauce/pearsauce (peeled, deseeded and cooked with water), winter squash, peeled cooked zucchini etc..) Try them one at a time to see for a reaction. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
The link you gave me, it's saying theres an error or is no longer there. I switched to unsweetened apple cider and am making some homemade goat yoghurt. > > Hi Trish, > > > OKay, right now he is eating homeade gelatin made with pure > > unsweetened apple juice and 2 tablespoons honey, scrambled eggs, > and > > organic chicken. > > Unsweetened apple juice is not SCD legal. Guest guest
Sometimes long links will be " broken " in yahoo. Try : http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/beginners.htm and go to " SCD Yogurt " ; then scoll down the page until you see " The type of starter to use " and click on it. It lists the starters and show some pics of them. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 22yrs mom of and
