Guest guest
As many of you know, I am a school administrator. It can be stressful and also fulfilling, but mostly demanding, and I struggle at times when I have attacks. A couple of years ago, I posted how frustrating it is to have this illness, and be " overlooked " for career moves because of missing too many days. Well, I am being considered for a promotion, and as long at the new supt. likes me, I should get the position of Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for my school district which consists of seven high schools. It is quite a step-up and will allow me to better utilize my PhD degree that I finished in 1998. I will miss the daily interactions with the students and teachers, but believe this job will benefit me in other ways. 1. A raise to pay my ever increasing medical costs (I hope they don't review how much my medical bills are before they hire me - around $100,000 a year if I only have two or three hospitalizations). My insurance plan changed - higher deductibles and co-pays, so I will be paying $5000.00 more each year. The raise should barely cover that increase. 2. Regular hours - like 8 - 5 and NO night duty (i.e. athletic event and dance supervision) 3. Less stress (that is questionable, but believe my day will have a slower pace, and no discipline of students and dealing with upset parents). I am so grateful to be able to still work and be productive with disease. I have to work 13 more years to reach retirement. I hope I make it. If you can think about me on Wed. when I have my interview, I would really appreciate it. I truly believe that there is a " plan " and will be just fine if I don't get the new position.
