I think this is a great idea.

Baby Showers

I would like to do something for the expecting mothers on this list.

I like the idea of an internet baby shower, but my delema is...

How do we know who all is expecting?

We could do a quarterly (January, April, July, October) group baby

shower. We could list the expecting mother's names.

We could choose a date and send gifts prior to that date. The mother-

to-be, could invite friends and family over to watch her open the

gifts on the date that we pick.

Please send me your thoughts. Is this workable or am I overlooking

potential problems? We could limit the price of the gifts, to make

it affordable for everyone to participate.

I might be wrong but can't you check the baby registers from the Internet? I

seem to recall doing that when my niece was born. I think it is a great idea!

Yes, All you have to know is the persons name and when the baby is due.

You can pull up the account by that and see everything they registered for.

Then if you want to purchase something, you can do so and have it sent

directly to them. Their address is kept confidential when shipping. It

usually says it will be shipped to the address provided by the registered

party. This is pretty much uniform on most sites that have registers.

It's really nice that the address is kept confidential on the store

registery. It's probably NOT a good idea to put the addresses of new

babies on the internet.

If you register online I think that it wouldn't be so much of a problem......But

I am not sure

baby showers

The problem is, if you register at, say, Walmart, they may only keep it at

the store in your area. We are scattered all over the US, Canada, South

America and as far away as Australia. But the idea is great. Just wondering

how we can make it work.

I don't know if this would help, but perhaps someone here lives

close to the people who are expecting. Perhaps that person/s could

be the one who helps get the registry gifts, and if someone wants to

send the " liason " something that could be delivered. They could also

be the one who takes pictures and posts them. Just a thought, I know

there is a good idea in there somewhere, but it just kind of popped

into my head without any real organization to it, but it is perhaps

an idea that can be explored?

Just being able to go shop at a baby store is great! It is a shame that we

won't get to hold the babies. Please count me in when we get this started.

I would like to think if you purchase something from the web site and have

it sent to the person that the store will do whatever it takes to locate and

get the purchased item to them as soon as possible. If you go to the store

and locate the item, then you will also have to make arrangements for the

item to be boxed and mailed. My time is valuable and I will probably let

the store do the sending.

For those who are expecting babies and would like to add their info

for a baby shower in the mail, I have put up a database on the

cfparents site at Yahoo! Groups.

If you are expecting, please add your information to it so that list

members who would like to send something can do so.

As far as the concern that kidnappers will be using this info, there

is a simple way around this. Put in your mailing address only if it

is a Post Office box. Otherwise, list the address of a close

relative or friend where the packages could be recieved for you.

(If you do this, though, make sure that you put c/o and the name of

the person receiving, so that the mail carrier delivers the items!)

Once the items are mailed, the information can be removed from the

database so there is no archive of the address, due dates, etc.

The database is located at:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/cfparents/database

Hope this is a helpful solution!!!

If anyone wants to add their info and can't get to the database for

some reason, email your name, address to mail items to, due date,

and date to mail items, to me at

cfparents-owner

with " Baby Shower on the Web " in the subject line and I will post

the info for you.

Now that is a wonderful idea. mommies could also then put together & get

bigger items

too(if they wanted or needed). This is such a sweet idea.

We could also do gift cards and have someone take pictures while they shop.

It's just an idea.
