Guest guest
Jaydee, Welcome to the board. You will find much information and support on here. I don't understand why the doctor would want you to loose 30 pounds unless he is testing you to see if you are truly committed to this process. My view on that is if I can just drop 30 pounds why would I need the surgery? And some people if you drop 30 it would put you below the required BMI. I agree I would have gone to a different doctor. Good luck. Dora in Tennessee Lap/Open RNY 9/20/2004 Vanderbilt Hospital
Guest guest
> I thought I was going to a dr for a surgery date and when I got >there he said he would not touch me unless I lost 30 lbs. There may be an explanation for it. Are you thinking about having lap surgery? If so, I've heard that some doctors want you to lose weight pre-op so that it gives them more room inside to move around. Just a thought. Guest guest
, What you are doing is exactly what we are all here for. Please be aware that this surgery is not and I mean not the easy way out. Your entire life will change. You will never eat food the way you do now ever again. Not that it is a bad thing. The way that you eat now got you where you are and it probably like me is not working too well for you. It is scary. I am pre-op and it is like you are stepping into the great unknown. But luckily with everyone here I know a whole lot more than I ever would have if I had never found this site. Think long and hard and make sure that you are doing what you want. Don't go into this lightly by any means. Everyone has to come to their own decision that they are sick of where they are and are ready to make a drastic change to fix it. I hope this helps, and I think that some fear is absolutely normal. Dora in Tennessee Lap/Open RNY 9/20/2004 Vanderbilt Hospital
Guest guest
Swamped here at work, but I wanted to chime in here. Dora, you're right on one level, everything changes in the way you respond to food and there needs to be a level of caution when approaching new foods, carbonated beverages, alcohol, etc. Is this forever? No. Will you never again have a Diet Coke? No. Never say never. Right now, at just over 4 months out people wouldn't know that I had the surgery, I can eat almost anything, I can gulp down almost 80 oz. of water a day!!!!! The only indication is that I eat less of everything and I make wiser decisions in what I eat to ensure I get the most protein I can. , Dora's right, the fear is normal and you shouldn't take any of this lightly. I have to admit that I am more pleasantly surprised by my outcome than I ever could have expected pre-op. My recovery was uneventful and I have returned to healthy levels of energy and stamina and, while I'm not losing quite as fast as I wish I were, I don't scoff at 75 pounds and 39 " gone in 17 weeks. Just remember never say never ! Lap RNY April 9, 2004 348/273/140 (begin/current/goal) www.carrieburns.net > , > > What you are doing is exactly what we are all here for.
