Guest guest
Hi Dawn I've had Fibro for as long as I can remember, but they officially DX it about 15 years ago. The first treatment due to the problem with me sleeping was to RX anti depresants to aid in your sleep. I guess sleep is very important because this is when a chemical is released in your body that has something to do with the pain you have with the Fibro. This is what my current Rheumy has explained to me. I refuse to take anti deprresants...long story. Anyway, about 8 months or so ago he RX a drug called neurontin. I will say of all the drugs I have been RX'd for Fibro this is the only one that " does " help with the over all pain we feel. Hopefully you are seeing a Rheumy and you may want to mention it to him. Hope this helps...and I " do " know the pain you are in.. hugs Sharyn > > > Date: 2002/06/19 Wed PM 09:15:11 EDT > To: Rpolychondritis > Subject: dawn/firbro/rp questions > > > hi everyone > > hope your all behaving and having fun painfree days. > > i have a question and don't really know who else to ask, so here goes. > > i have just returned from a few days inthe mountains, and during this time i had a rheumy appt, i had to go to. > > well after 4 or 5 years of telling me that the only thing i have is RP, and arthritis, he has now decidied that i have fibromyalgia, now i really don't know a whole lot about this , except the it is wide spread pain areas. please i need some help, what to expect and what to look for, also what kind of meds should i ask about or be taking, > > i just know that i have had so much pain in my back that i am about ready to go bonkers, i hate feeling this way, > > its bad enough to have RP, and arthitis now add this new one and what do i do now. > > please can you at least point me in the right direction > > thanks > > dawn > > > > --------------------------------- >
Guest guest
Dawn, I know how you feel about pain. My rheummy told me I had Fibro also besides the RP a couple of months ago. He said that if you dont sleep the body doesnt have a chance to heal itself. Something about a sleep pattern your body has to go in. He prescribe Ambien but I still dont feel any difference in the pain yet. I have also had 3 lower back surgeries and neck surgery two years ago. So I never know what is the cause of my pain. But I have always put off my surgeries till it is to late and I have some type of permanent problems that I probably could have avoided. If you ever have a numbness or loss of the use of your arms or legs be sure to see your DR. soon. Right now I have my right arm going asleep and numbness in my hand so I am waiting for the results of my MRI. It will probably just show acute nuts of the brain. haha. One Dr. says maybe a ruptured disk or maybe from the RP and another says no RP only affects certain cartlige. I dont think they really know themselves its only guess work. WHen my body ruptures a disk its like a complete blow out on a tire and it goes straight to the nerves and compresses them off and therapy, meds, traction nothing works except surgery to remove it from the nerve. FUN FUN FUN Oh well good luck maybe your Dr. will come up with something to help you. I'll be praying for you hang in there. luv ya,
