Guest guest
Hi Michele, On the intro you shouldn't use onions even if it is just for flavour. They have natural inulin but it may be too much at the beginning when trying to starve out the nasties. After the intro as you improve you can gradually try new things like the onions. Guest guest
I already made the soup today with the onions... the receipe in BTVC had the onions in it, but taken out later for eating. This is very frustrating as I cannot just toss two huge pots of soup. Is this a huge problem? It should have been clearer if it is. Thx, Michele > > Hi Michele, > > On the intro you shouldn't use onions even if it is just for flavour. > They have natural inulin but it may be too much at the beginning when > trying to starve out the nasties. Guest guest
, You can use that soup. You can use that onion as you're making the broth, but must discard it after the broth is made. You did it correctly. Enjoy. Just note it for future reference- only chicken and carrots in soup for the intro. > It should have been clearer if it is. On page 69 BTVC where it lists the intro diet and what to eat on it, it says, " homemade chicken soup including broth, chicken, pureed carrots (See page 91) " Don't worry about making a mistake, we all do it. If I had a dime for every mistake I've made on the diet I'd be a very wealthy woman I hope you all start feeling better very soon. Guest guest
Ugh; thanks. I hope I don't make too many mistakes. I figure I'll be eating the soup anyway, most likely not the kids. I'll make them plain roasted chickens, meatballs, & burgers, & carrots. Thanks again, Michele > > > > > > Hi Michele, > > > > > > On the intro you shouldn't use onions even if it is just for > > flavour. > > > They have natural inulin but it may be too much at the beginning > > when > > > trying to starve out the nasties. Guest guest
Sheila, The intro diet does clearly state broth, chicken, and carrots for the chicken soup. Most people make chicken broth with the chicken carcus, onions, carrots, celery, and various herbs. Of course, all of that is strained out with only the liquid remaining for the broth. Are you saying that only the carcus should be used to make the chicken broth? I just want to be absolutely clear that I understand you. I don't know where the " carcass' limitaions came from. maybe you have it lkinked to Summer's Bone broth. Also you can returne the pureed carrots to the soup. ( Since I have latex allergy and cannot use carrots, I use yellow squash.) Carol F. SCD

I think you could put the celery, onions and parsley in the pot while simmering but remove/strain them through a colander when the soup is finished simmering. From personal experience I have not been able to tolerate the broth made with onions at the intro but could down the road. If you try the soup and continue having GI symptoms while on the intro you may want to try simmering without the onions.
