Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I took biaxin for a sinus infection a couple months ago, no problem with the pouch at all. Go for it you will feel much better! Phyllis Antibiotics Okay, me who never gets sick has a serious sinus infection. Walk-in Clinic doc gave me Biaxin. Anyone had any experience taking this? I looked back on my saved emails but couldn't find any mention of Biaxin being good or bad. This doc sure didn't know. Anyone? Guest guest
Andie - Be careful about over peridex-ing. The resident that discharged me from the hospital gave be keflex (every 6 hrs for 6 days) and peridex (5x a day). However, my ortho had told me before surgery not to start the peridex until she said it was ok. So I called her and she said to wait a week before starting to use it because it was actually harsh to the healing tissue. Once I saw her - she said my hygiene was really good and that I should only use the peridex twice/three times a day - because again it is pretty harsh to the gums and actually could slow healing. I would check with your ortho. Just my experience...and two cents! -becky
Guest guest
Andie, How long were you in hospital for? Even if you were there only for 24 hours they will have put in a lot of antibiotics in your IV. Right after surgery is the most important time in terms of fighting infection so I'm sure your doctors and nurses pumped you up with them. Some doctors are more precautious than others and therefore prescribe antibiotics for longer. On general it's never good to take them for more than 5 to 7 days. Also I can tell you that the taste of liquid antibiotics is FOUL! So lucked out on that one. However, if you're truly concerned about this don't hesitate to call your doctor and ask about this. Guest guest
I have to go on antibiotics for a skin infection. Any suggestions as to how I can prevent a relaspe? In the past they have made me quite ill. Thanks Sue SCD 6 mths, CC 25 yrs
Guest guest
I would say eat the maximum allowed yogurt and take extra probiotics. I am on antibiotics for Lyme, and it is very important to get a lot of probiotics in, more than you need when not on antibiotics. The Lyme-literate doctor who prescribed me the antibiotics said that I needed to take at least two capsules of at least 14 billion live organisms each (i.e., at least 28 billion live organisms) every day, spaced at least two hours from the antibiotics and preferably on a relatively empty stomach at least an hour or two after eating, such as at bedtime. I also eat yogurt during the day starting at least 2 hours after taking the morning antibiotic. There are probably other things you can do more specific to your situation and your reaction to antibiotics. What were your symptoms? mother of Adam (8, PDD-NOS, Lyme, hypotonia, asthma, egg allergy, SCD 7/06) At 08:23 PM 10/4/2006, you wrote: >I have to go on antibiotics for a skin infection. Guest guest
Sue, There is a section on antibiotics at Elaine's website, www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info which lists out which antibiotics cause less havoc in the gut. If there is any way you can request the doctor use one of the less " evil " ones, that might help. Look in the " Knowledge Base " section of her site... or use the search function for " antibiotics " . Patti antibiotics I have to go on antibiotics for a skin infection. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. It is great. I have a terrible skin rash. It starts as a pimple and becomes beet red, they feel like they are on fire, very painful. The dr. doesn't know what it is. They say it may be related to hormones. Guest guest
That almost sounds like shingles, if it is that painful. Have they ruled that out? Patti Re: antibiotics Thanks for the info. Guest guest
Keep the probiotics flowing. You give her an acidophilus supplement as well as the yogurt, right? Have they concluded that she indeed has some sort of infection? It's strange that the first round of antibiotic didn't help. Was it an ear infection.... sinus infection... or what? I do salt water nasal irrigation if my daughter has any sort of snotty nose issues. Patti Antibiotics Chloe has had green snot and pussy eye goop for almost 5 weeks. We did a round of Zithromax because I got desperate and the MD said to call if she didn't show signs of improvement (she didn't). She still isn't better so they put her on omnicef. I hate that we have had to do this but she is miserable. She is still eating yogurt and taking her probiotic and her stool is solid for the first time in over 2 months. It was solid right after we started the diet, turned back to mush around 1.5 months and has been much since 3 days ago. Is there anything I should be doing to prevent overgrowth of bad bacteria now that she is finally showing signs of improvement (from a stool perspective)?
