Guest guest
My son is nearly 4 months into SCD and doing well but still tends to have a mushy stool. Does this mean that he is not tolerating a food that he is eating? Here is his diet: lamb, turkey, chicken, peach, plum, pear, zucchini, squash, green beans, egg yogurt made with walnut milk olive oil, coconut oil He also still tends to be constipated: going every 3 to 4 days. Any help about how to work toward regular, formed stools would be appreciated! , mom of Elijah, 4 yrs old, diagnosed with autism

Did you start with the intro and gradually add foods in? How were his bm's prior to starting SCD? Are the fruits and veggies either raw or peeled and cooked until soft? What kind of chicken, turkey - (any chance there are seasonings, illegals in the meat)? How long has been eating the green beans? When did you start the walnut milk yogurt ? How much /day? Is it homemade walnut milk? What starter are you using to make the yogurt? Any supplements? Any other symptoms besides the stools - ie behaviour, rashes etc.. Guest guest
Sheila, thank you for responding. I am sorry for my delayed response. I will do my best to outline his situation: 7 months ago (pre-GF, CF, SCD), my son had severe constipation going every 6 days and it was literally rock hard. In March, after going GF, CF, and adding enzymes, the stools loosened a bit and came about every 4 days. We went SCD on June 16. At that time we weren't sure if he tolerated eggs, chicken or carrots so I had to make a decision to skip the intro diet. I just wanted him not to have complex starches anymore, so I did the best I could. We now know he is fine with eggs and chicken. I still find unbrokendown carrots in his stool. I put him back on the intro diet last Saturday for one day. The fruits and veggies he has now are all peeled and fully cooked, some cooked, pureed, and then fried with an egg in coconut oil. We raise and eat our own meat so no strange flavorings there. He has had green beans since he was quite young. I use the probiogurt starter for the walnut milk and he started that at about 2 months into SCD. He's up to 4 teaspoons. We stopped vitamins for now. A couple of other things: he had 2 green stools when he first went SCD. His stools were beginning to come out semi-formed after the 2 month mark and now we are back to mush. He also has been having green stools for the past week. Very irritable also and mucous in stools. Please help if you can. GOD bless you, and thank you so much for your time and energy in the quest to help these children! , mom of Elijah, diagnosed with autism, SCD June 2006 Sheila Trenholm wrote: Hi , > My son is nearly 4 months into SCD and doing well but still tends to have a mushy stool. Guest guest
I will bet you are getting a fresh round of die-off from re-doing intro. that will prove to be a step FORWARD in the long run.... but it's probably that going back to the intro for that one day last weekend got to some bad pathogens that had been " hold outs " . i would expect him to improve very soon. Guest guest
Someone asked how other parents did the fruits? and about meats as well? I am at this point peeling and de-seeding all fruits and veggies but bananas. And cooking them all but the bananas unless I make banana pancakes. I'm taking it real slow, adding a new food one at a time. As far as meats, before we ever started the SCD diet, I would get him regular chicken from the reg. grocery store and he would get these white bumps on his bum so I stopped the reg. meat and no more bumps. He can only have organic untainted, unflavored meats. They are very expensive but well worth it. All those antibiotics and who knows what else they put in reg. meats are horrible. I hope all turns out well with your child. Trish > Hi , > > > My son is nearly 4 months into SCD and doing well but still tends > to have a mushy stool. Even if well cooked (As in the chicken soup for 4 hours) can still come out in stools if the person doesn't chew well. Some veggies will go to mush went cooked like peeled zucchini but carrots don't. Carrots are a good source of good carbs though, so if you can continue them it would be good. > The fruits and veggies he has now are all peeled and fully cooked, some cooked, pureed, and then fried with an egg in coconut oil. Coconut oil has antifungal properties so this may contribute to the die off you are seeing (the green mushy stools). > We raise and eat our own meat so no strange flavorings there. > > He has had green beans since he was quite young. I think you may want to remove the green beans for three days or so and see if that helps clear up the mushy stools. > > I use the probiogurt starter for the walnut milk and he started that at about 2 months into SCD. His stools were beginning to come out semi-formed after the 2 month mark and now we are back to mush. He also has been having green stools for the past week. Very irritable also and mucous in stools. The green stools indicate that " bacterial metabolism is CHANGING. The change is affecting the bile salts and therefore affects the color of the stool. " see http://pecanbread.com/badreaction.html and http://pecanbread.com/difficulties.html#initial Epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal may help with the die off. See bottom of this page: http://pecanbread.com/badreaction.html Let me know if he is still having mushy stools next week.
