Guest guest
ok linda now give them the complication rates of the other surgeries. The verticle band gastroplasty has a very high rate of failure and weight regained, you can only be expected to loose 30% of your weight. That doesnt help with a person who is over 100-150 lbs overweight. I went to a great doc for that surgery i would only have lost about 90. He himself told me that I needed to look into something more dramatic to acheive the weight i wanted to loose. hugs marg
Guest guest
You may feel " fine " after surgery and most do, but you don't know what's up the road because you haven't been told the facts. The MGB is the " Billroth II " procedure that has a very long, very well documented sordid history of causing serious problems, including cancer. See http://www.fourlane.com/mgb It has risks that are specific only to the Billroth II, not to any other weight loss surgery, because of the way the intestine is connected to the stomach. It causes pancreatic juices and bile to get into the stomach where it doesn't belong, setting up a chain reaction of events that leads to serious damage. It may be YEARS before the patient knows he has a problem but by then, serious damage is done (and Rutledge will be long gone!) You are NOT being told the facts. This procedure was invented in the 1880's. It was used in the 1940's to 1970's in as a weight loss surgery, but it was abandoned over 25 years ago for weight loss surgery because study after study showed that after several years, patients developed gastritis, ulcers, esophagitis and cancer. Rutledge will tell you it's " done all over the U.S., " " taught in medical schools, " and " used for cancer surgery " as his " proof " that it is " safe, " but the fact is that it is used to treat trauma damage and reconstruction after cancer surgery, when the surgeon has to try to restore some sort of digestive system after most of the stomach has been removed and even then, the recommended procedure is the RNY. The RNY was specifically invented to create a way to keep the bile and pancreatic acids out of the stomach after a bypass. The RNY and Vertical Banded gastroplasty operations are the only surgeries recognized by the National Institutes of Health to treat Morbid Obesity. These procedures are available laparoscopically and have the same recovery time and scarring as the so-called " MGB " (Billroth II). Run, don't walk, away from this surgery if you value your life and health. When post-ops tell you they " feel fine " remember that not one of them had their surgery more than 3 years ago. Most of them had their surgery less than a year ago. NONE of them has had time to develop any of the serious complications of this procedure. There are also plenty of people with complications that develop immediately after surgery but you won't find them on Rutledge's patient contact lists. Write me. I'm happy to tell you what I know. I'm 4 mos. post-op. Would I do it again? No way! Guest guest
Oh boy. Here we go again. Listen folks. I was a big advocate of and her right to her views but several of the others on the egroup have researched her background and privately sent some of us info that now makes me doubt every single " fact " she sites. If you are interested, contact me privately and I will pass on the info. I don't want to inflame her here any more than she already is. I have a serious problem with her scare tactics. She certainly has the right to share information with us but she is purposely being inflamatory without thought as to how her tactics could emotionally affect people. in Atlanta (....when she " comes after me " I hope you'll step up like a gentleman!!!) > > You may feel " fine " after surgery and most do, but you don't know what's > up the road because you haven't been told the facts. Guest guest
This isn't about me, , it's about you. You don't have to believe me, either. Read what the top bariatric surgeons in the country, all of whom know EXACTLY what procedure Rutledge is doing, all of whom can do the procedure Rutledge does and REFUSE to do it because it is too dangerous for the patient, and ALL of whom saw Rutledge's presentation about his procedure in June and concluded he is a liar doing a dangerous procedure on people that was abandoned 25 years ago as a weight loss surgery: http://www.mini-gastricbypass.com AND YOU CAN DO THE RESEARCH YOURSELF THAT I ALREADY DID AND FIND OUT SOME FACTS FOR YOURSELF. WHOA! what a concept. Look up BILLROTH in any search engine and any medical online service. It is the procedure Rutledge does. I didn't write the studies. Hundreds of studies that show the Billroth II has long term effects that don't show up for years, but which are VERY serious, including cancer. THEN WHAT WILL YOUR EXCUSE BE, BESIDES TERMINAL STUPIDITY?? YOU'LL HAVE THE SAME FACTS I DO ONLY YOU FOUND THEM YOURSELF. You won't be able to say " look at this, 's blah, blah, blah, whatever today's story is. " You'll be confronted with the MEDICAL FACTS about this procedure that show it is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and has WELL-DOCUMENTED long-term complications, including cancer. I do notice this list has gotten pretty bare bones over the past week, with a lot of the shiny-happy chatty-cathy types posting, so maybe there aren't a lot of people left who can understand the information, but I am giving it a shot anyway. If you'd like to see the medical research I already found, go to: SEE: http://www.fourlane.com/mgb SEE: http://www.fourlane.com/cancer.htm SEE: http://www.fourlane.com/problems.htm SEE: http://www.fourlane.com/1983.htm EVERY reputable doctor REFUSES to do the Billroth II for weight loss because of the SPECIFIC problems that ONLY the Billroth II causes. I could be a drunken, raging two-headed tree sloth leading the next assault on Dunkirk and that does NOT change the facts. You won't find this information on Rutledge's site, either. It's not like there are not other procedures, either. WHY would you take such risks that are specific ONLY to this procedure, that are IN ADDITION to the " normal " risks for ulcers, etc. of all the other procedures. This is compelling medical information. The RNY and VBG are the only two procedures recognized by the National Institutes of Health for Treating Obesity. But, if you want to mutilated, that is, of course, your choice. May God help you and best wishes in your decision. -- Kind regards, http://www.fourlane.com/lindat lindat @ mindspring.com (no spaces) --------------------------------------------- ROBERT R. Guest guest
, Thanks for your concern and all your information. It did help me seriously question and validate what I want to do....which is have Dr. R's surgery. Since its clear you are incredible at research, I guess some of us are just wondering why you didn't have these facts BEFORE you decided to use Dr. R for your surgery. In any event, facts can be used to take any position. I have a friend who had the open Rouen-Y and one who had the laproscopic Rouen-Y and they both had complications. There are no guarantees no matter which proceedure we choose to use. I figure I'm going to die from co-morbities if I don't do something and I, for one, feel comfortable with the research I've done on Dr. R. I have shown his proceedure to several surgeons and not one of them took the position yours have stated. Two of them actually told me that they are not surprised that other bariatric surgeons would be giving him a hard time. The bottom line is that each one of us has to decide the risks for ourselves....just like you did. Please don't be angry at us for making our own decision just because it may differ from your opinion. - -- In MiniGastricBypass (AT) egroups (DOT) com, lindat@m... wrote: > > > This isn't about me, , it's about you.
