However, if all goes well, the good doc will remove bad parts, repair good parts, put it all back together, and you will be better in the long run. Another thing is even with all diagnostic tests, there is nothing like a well lit eyeball view. When your doc gets in, maybe decisions will be made that even he doesn't know about at this time. FWIW, I had mine, a modified Whipple in 1986 and after full recovery, a year, I had 13 years of very active and normal life before chronic P set in. Guest guest
Poncho - I too am contemplating the whipple. As you know I have been a member of PAI for three years, and am basically " healthy " 80% of the time - no pain or symptoms. I have discovered, however, that my panc is deteriorating even without " symptoms. " I have Panc divisum. The surgeon I consulted at IU Med Ctr (recommended by Dr. Lehman) said I have a much greater chance of success with the good health I currently experience, than if I wait until I am dependent on pain meds, not exercising, not eating correctly, etc. I turned 50 August 5th. Yea! I think!?!? Anyway, Poncho, you are the FIRST person I have been able to communicate with who had long-term success with the whipple. Due to FERPA and HIPPA, there is no way to talk to people who have had success. Thanks for the encouraging words - 13 years is a LONG time, in our terms.
