Hi, this is Dale, Laurie's hubby. Laurie brought a bunch of

the little boxes of " Juicy-Juice " The kind you would throw into a

kid's lunch. She had various flavors, and seemed happy with all of

them. She also brought some cherry flaovored Pedialite and hated

it. We put it in 's bottle and she didn't mind. Dr R says

salty stuff seems to help, and Laurie said she was craving salt after

the surgery. She didn't try any V8 though, mainly because she has

never liked tomato juice.

You will get a page of prescriptions with your discharge

papersthat they drop off for you the morning after surgery. It was

the last page, and doesn't look like any prescription I've ever seen,

but it works.

Hi

I'm 2 weeks postop, so I'll try to answer some of your questions.

juices...I drank orange juice, apple, and lots of gatorade. But my

favorite was v-8. I craved the salt. Salt helps you retain fluid,

thus helping keep you hydrated. Very important in the early days

especially. I loved gatorade at first, because it felt like I could

drink more of it I guess. But now, I can't hardly take it. It's way

too sweet for my taste. I guess the old tastebuds are being

revised. :-)

Vioxx...I got the prescription when I was discharged. I was a self-

pay also, due to a specific exclusion. But when I got all my meds

filled before heading to Durham, my insurance payed for everything

except the Prevacid. They even payed for the Actigall, which was the

one thing I was really worried about. So go figure.

Gee, just two questions??? :-)

I'm doing really good. It really feels great to be able to add some

solids, and I'm tolerating things pretty good. My worst problem is

deciding on when I'm full. My favorite is watermelon, with lots of

salt on it. It feels like I can eat a lot of it before I get full.

Yumm!

Ask any other questions you like. Someone will have the answer I'm

sure.

Good luck!

Hi ,

Take a deep breathe:)

I'll give you my take where I can...

> Can some of the post-ops please give me your opinions on the juices

apple, Juicy juice cherry and berry (boxes)

I thought we wanted to avoid

If they are too sweet for your liking, you can dilute them with

water.

I haven't had that problem, but I haven't had strong juices like OJ

or pinneapple. You are drinking so slowly at first. You are not

getting any large sugar load at any one time. You are basically

fasting.

What about the vegetable juices? Is V-8 too salty?

I don't like V8, but I am craving salty. I know others like it.

We had the Vioxx called in after surgery. We got everything else

before hand.

I may have gone overboard but I went to a health food store and

bought only 100% pure fruit juice. I LOVED the Mango! It was a

little thick and I felt like I was really drinking something lol. I

am still very careful to pick up 100% juice. Be careful in the

grocery stores because they try and trick you by putting 100% in HUGE

print on the front of the lable then if you read really close it

says: 100% of your daily vit. C. I know, I fell for that one once

and almost freaked when I realized it was only 15% juice! Thank

goodness I did not dump!

NOTHING is too salty after the MGB! at least not in my experience.

As a matter of fact I love salt now!

I never needed to fill my pain meds after surgery.

I was self pay and my insurance covered all my pre op and post op

meds.

Best of luck!

Thanks Ebbieday,

You looked so relaxed and calm at clinic that I'm keeping that

picture in my mind as where I want to be after surgery!! And I'm sure

I will have more questions. Those are the ones that popped out

first:-)

I liked Gatorade, apple juice, cranberry juice. I don't like veggie

juices, so I can't comment on them. I wouldn't worry about getting the

vioxx filled, you probably won't need it. I did alot worse than most and

I still didn't need it. Pain isn't the problem, weakness was mine.

Can you believe it is time? I am so happy for you. When are you going?

Take care & God Bless!

Thanks Kristi,

I'll be dancing on Oct. 12 - less than two weeks away - I can't

believe its so soon!! I finally told my 21-year-old son and he was

unbelievably supportive (he's very thin and considers food a

necesssary evil...if I hadn't been there for birth I'd think he's

adopted!). He was so incredibly supportive it made me cry. And get

this....he emailed my mother and asked her to not put any pressure on

me about the amount lost after surgery (She wouldn't, but he was

being protective). Could you kiss this kid or what? I'm in frantic

mode trying to get ready.

When I told my 4 year old son that mommy was going to the hospital to have

5 little bitty cuts made on her tummy he smiled really big and said, " Are

we having another baby? " I said, " NO! " Mommy's tummy is going to get

smaller, he cried and said he didn't want my big tummy to go away. (he

also drew a picture of my tummy with a really big belly button and 5

little red cuts for Dr. R) Then yesterday my hubby said, I can tell your

tummy is getting smaller. I asked my son and he said " No, I mean YES

MAAM!!!! " hehe

Now he is telling everyone at school that when he has a perfect day at

school then he gets another baby. Pretty tall order for just being good

at school I think. LOL

Yes, Kids are the best. Never find love like that if you tried. Other

than my hubby anyway. :)

You take care & STAY CALM!!!!!

Post op, I was still fairly dehydrated. Gatorade was my lifesaver

the first few days. I also regularly drank V8 and even added extra

salt. Dr.R has said at clinic more than once that dehydration is

what brings on the weak feelings (not eating less).

One other thing I did was 'frappe' soups (vegetable, chicken

noodle). These made nice hearty liquid 'hot' meals.

Best of luck,

Debbie
