Guest guest
The lemon juice is causing the resperitory problems, or the fires? Can you tell us what they are eating? You could try making a giner tea for the cough, but I don't know if they can do ginger if they have severe allergies. I'm glad to hear that they're making great strides. Guest guest
Thanks Robin! I'll try the ginger tea. I forgot about that one. I've been trying everything else. I think it is the lemon juice that caused the problem. I thought we were doing so well that maybe we could introduce one of his allergens. We'll just have to wait longer. SO far all my boys can tolerate is meat and certain veggies. SO we have hamburgers, grilled chicken with steamed broccoli or spinach for breakfast. I really hope we can get to eggs and nuts sometime soon. Also, I was reading the Body Ecology Diet and thought I would try the fermented veggies, that's what had the lemon juice. So I was wondering if it is the allergy or die off since the fermented veggies are another way to introduce probiotic into his system. Guest guest
Jill, Fermented vegetables are considered an advanced food for anyone on SCD.... and it would be far too soon yet for anyone who just started SCD on Labor Day. Here's a link to an article on fermented veggies for SCD: http://www.geocities.com/scd_post/SCDietFermetedfoods2.html There are many other diets to try out there, but we can't recommend you try to do both the BED and SCD, as there are many conflicting points. Guest guest
Thanks Patti. I was getting very excited since SCD has been wonderful for my boys but we were anxious to start another level of healing and trying to get to eggs and other foods because meat and broccoli is getting so boring. We'll try to slow down, it's very difficult since the holidays are right around the corner. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. We had eliminated all his food allergens for about a year and a half but just started SDC in late August. He must have a real leaky gut. My son just turned 5. Did you say you did SCD for 6 months before you introduced eggs? Jill > >> > >> The lemon juice is causing the resperitory problems, or the fires? > > Can you > >> tell us what they are eating? Guest guest
Jill.... One more quick comment.... It seems pretty early to be introducing broccoli, too. Broccoli is a cabbage family veggie, and therefore not for beginners. I'd still consider you guys to be beginners, frankly. Are you sure they are tolerating the broccoli, and digesting it well? Guest guest
I didn't realize that. I steam it and they seem to do fine. They are sooo limited with only meat (steak, chicken, lamb) and veggies (spinach, broccoli, red cabbage) I'm trying to add veggies with Vitmain K since leaky gut problems cause a deficiency in Vitamin K. That's all they eat and it's not because they are picky eaters. They are allergic to squash family, nightshades etc. and couldn't tolerate any dairy, fruit or nuts. They have improved so much and really want to eat more but I think they have such a leaky gut. Do you have any other ideas? > > Jill.... Guest guest
We eliminated eggs about a month before scd because his blood work at the allergist showed a moderate allergy to eggs. He told us that if we took them out of his diet, we had a good chance of iel outgrowing the allergy because of his young age and moderate reaction. We found out about scd a couple of weeks later, and started the diet right about a month after the allergy results. I just decided to give the eggs a try recently, and have seen no problems with them. The doctor had told me to give it maybe a year, but it is so hard to do scd egg free that I decided to try it anyway. If I had seen anything negative, I would've pulled them immediately, and waited until next April...the one year mark. Meleah Need help! Guest guest
You might want to read Tamaro's research about Vitamin K... it seems many of the kids may not have the enzyme to convert the Vitamin K1 in foods into the K2 the brain needs. It may be very difficult for them to pull the K they need out of foods like dark leafy greens, since those contain the K1 form. She recommends supplementing with Vitamin K2.... since that form is present in only a very limited number of foods (egg yolks, organ meats). I have my daughter on the liquid K2 from Thorne Research. 's article is here: http://gutresearch.com/v1.html There's a listserve for those of us who are supplementing with her protocol: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VitaminK/ Patti Re: Need help! Guest guest
Wow, that Thorne K2 is very $$, from my quick lookup on an internet search. Where do you get yours from? I've joined that group to get more info. Thanks, Michele > > > > Jill.... One more quick comment.... > > > > It seems pretty early to be introducing broccoli, too.
