Guest guest
i am pretty sure my 2 1/2 yr old is allergic to milk protiens and wheat/gluten. now my babies are not tolerating any of their formulas. i have tried every kind on the market including the easily digestable neocate and alimentum. i tried other cheaper types: soy, lactose free, milk based, etc. none of them agree with my 4 mos old twins. the ingredient lists on the formula cans are so long that i am not sure which ingredients i should have them tested for. which ones would be the most suspect? i hesitate to do the IGG & IGe testing. i already gave them elaine's baby formula for 2 days to clean out their gutt. should i use some of my son's new supplements: probiotics, multi vits, fish oil, etc. on the babies and see how they do before i get them allergy tested? Guest guest
Research proves that under the age of FIVE years old IgG, IgA and IgE tests ARE NOT ACCURATE, due to immature immune system. Plus, I doubt that what you are up againts is " true " allergy anyways. And if you believe Elaine, you will soon learn that it is much more than just an intolerance problem with gluten, corn, soy or casein anyways. My best suggestion for you would be to find a human milk bank since your babies are so young. If you can relactate I would suggest this too. ASAP Contact your nearest hospital and ask to speak with a lactation consultant/nurse to find where you can buy this human milk and to see if it is too late for you to breast feed them. Most human milk banks can arrange a payment schedule for you. So that you are not hit all at once. Like my family, you are sadly discovering the hard way that human milk is meant for human babies and that cow milk is meant for baby cows and that soy...it is meant for the trash can. Soy is just a miserable food for humans...let alone our poor babies. Most baby formula has corn syrup...another substance that is not meant for human consumption in my opinion. Our daughter ended up in the ER FOUR times becasue of reactions to formula. She now is recovering from autism. Is their a link...I don't know. But can't help but make me wonder. We tried them all! NOTHING WORKED for our two babies either. Babies are very smart. Their little bodies know what is meant for human consumption and what is not. Untill we bought the donated human milk, and I was able to increase my milk supply, their was no relief for them. Ultimately SCD has saved them both. Makes sure to only use SCD approved probitics. WE wish you all well. Antoinette and family of five/Past Hx:Cd, colitis, colic, adhd, autism, and more) (SCD 2/06)
Guest guest
I'm nursing so I've never had to use formula for any of my kiddos, but with this last one since he couldn't tolerate anything I wanted to know there would be something he could have should something happen to me at anytime. So I got this " recipe " for formula from someone i knew on another list when we were just GFCF. So it's **not** SCD, but perhaps someone here can take a look at it, make some comments & changes for you? Here it is: 1 Quart whole almond milk (for SCD I assume make homemade) 1 cup carrot juice (she used canned; freshly juiced would be better; not sure how SCD is with that) 1 Tbsp flax oil (not sure if this is legal at all) 3 Tbsp pure maple syrup 1 Tbsp molasses (not sure what you would do about these last two; honey is not safe for anyone under 1yr) 1 Tbsp super blue green algae 1/10mg folic acid She said there is a hydroxyfolate that you can use 1 drop of in place of the blue green algae & folic acid. She had a number for ordering if you're interested in that I'll give it to you separately. She never ordered it though, so not sure if that is even still valid. She said the formula needs to be made daily becz it oxidizes once it's made. Store in fridge in air tight container. If using almond milks she felt protein powder should be added (she used soy milk). She said it's best to put the flax oil in first, then the maple syrup, swish until mixed. Then add the molasses, swish, then the algae & FA, swish, then slowly add the carrot juice & swish little by little. Then she dumped the milk in & shook it. This way the ingredients didn't separate as much in between bottles. Personally I'd try to relactate if you can. Call La Leche League International - they have an 800 number & a website. They can refer you to someone knowledgeable in your area. Let me know if you need help with that; I'd be happy to track someone down for you. Again, this formula is NOT SCD, & I'm not advocating anything against SCD. I just feel for your babies right now so I had this option & couldn't not say anything. And also, like I said, maybe someone here can help re-do this to be SCD legal for you! Guest guest
I can tell you that our dan doctor's in house dietician has me giving our baby(14mths. when my asd son saw the dr. & dietician) probiotic and fish oil. She also has me taking a high dha fish oil because I am still nursing. We plan to have more children, and she told me to start giving any new baby a probiotic right from the start in the hospital. She didn't tell me to give a newborn fish oil because they would be nursing, and thus getting the benefits through me. Since you're not nursing, you should give them fish oil. You may need to purchase a different one for them because children under three need a lot of dha for brain development. You can start out with 1/2 tsp., and move up the dose if you think they need more. She said that you know when you're giving too much because stools will become oily. For administering probiotic, just sprinkle the contents of the capsule into their mouth. Guest guest
If anyone can revamp this for scd use for you, you need to use a legal dha supplement whether is be mixing a bit of fish oil, using a powdered form, or something. These ingredients don't appear to be high in dha, and like I said in the earlier post, infants must have it to have normal brain development. Guest guest
I agree. Maybe some fish oils can be added somehow...
