Guest guest
Dear Jill, The only fermented foods that we could tolerate early on where the goat yogurt. If it is not " Elaine " approved I would strongly suggest that you put it aside. I know that it is tempting to take the suggestions in other books. But sadly to say...they do not have the good reputation that SCD has. And worse...can ruin your chances of healing your son the SCD way. It is very important that you try to stick to those foods that are easy for the body to digest and handle in the beginning. For best and fastest results the BTVC book should be the only one trusted. I personaly know. We strayed a few times...and paid. This is why I tell you this. Not because I am or was perfect. We too came to SCD dairy free. And full of casein fears. I learned that after 24 hours of fermentation that the casein is denatured. Many no longer have an " allergic " or " exorphine " reacton to the stuff. Thankfully we did fine with it. But it did have a part in our die off. Some suggest to introduce it slow, because of this die off reaction to this yogurt. It can be rather unpleasant. But is much needed to kill the bad gut bugs! I am so glad that I put aside my fears of casiene and dairy. After that first die off....using Elaine approved yogurt. Made with SCD safe starter. This is when we began to see the miracle happen with our ASD/celiac daughter...and all of us. She has a ways to go, but I will never fear the use of this yogurt again. SCD as outlined in the book is truly working to heal all of us. I trust that you too, will see results with this special yogurt. It would be truly sad if these other foods that we can ferment, may have illegal things in them that could simply ruin your SCD success. I hope this helps you to heal your son better, Good LUCK!
