Guest guest
> > Hi, > > My son has been on SCD from two months ago. His diet is still mainly at Stage 1 & 2. We just started introduce some foods from Stage 3. He usually has one or two BMs daily. Most of them are mushy or pasty, occassionally well formed. He doesn't have diarrhea any more. My question is if we should stay at Stage 1 & 2 until we get a " perfect " poo or we can slowly move on to Stage 3? In Elaine's book, it says " Raw fruits should not be introduced until diarrhea is under control. Raw vegetables also should not be introduced until diarrhea is under control " . Does this mean I can give my son raw fruits and vegetables if there is no diarrhea present? My own view is it should not be necessary to linger so long without adding new foods. I regret that The Stages cannot be specific about how long to remain on each one as reactions will always vary. It best when interpreted as a guideline for the relative ease in digestibility of commonly used foods on SCD. Whyt not try a tiny amount of a Stage Three food and see the effect? Carol F. Guest guest
, Well, formed stools are the goal.... and a good indicator that the gut is functioning *better*. Loose or mushy BMs are better than diarrhea... but still indicate that there is much healing to do. I personally think that at only two months in, it is TOO SOON for raw foods. There are quite a few families here who can attest that they, too, were anxious to move on.... and now regret that they did. Having to go back to square one and start all over again is not fun. A hard lesson to learn. I don't want you to have done all this hard work only to shoot yourself in the foot. Anything that cannot easily be digested can potentially feed gut pathogens and you need to remember that if bacterial colonies have died off and moved on, they may leave behind very tender new tissue that needs time to heal. Raw fruits and veggies can be harsh on those new tissues. At two months, your son is still very much a " newbie " in SCD terms. You can try raw foods if you want to..... and you will have to be the judge as to whether he does well on them or not. My guess is that this could impede his progress toward long-term healing. Just the absence of diarrhea is not a sign that major healing has happened.... only a good sign that he's on the right track. Gotta be patient. Are you using the SCD yogurt? And/or acidophilus supplements? Patti Should we move on to next stage? Hi, My son has been on SCD from two months ago. His diet is still mainly at Stage 1 & 2.
