Guest guest
It is absolutely NOT legal. For one thing, it contains bifidus strains.... and also contains some illegal starch. Patti VSL 3 Probiotics Does anyone know if VSL 3 is legal? I have been hearing a lot of good results using VSL 3 to maintain UC remission. Thanks G.S. Guest guest
Well, Maureen, it does not outweigh the fact that I am in the middle of a nasty flare from that stuff so we cannot promote it here. By all intents and purposes it is illegal and I will never touch the stuff again with a ten-foot poll. Guest guest
Hi Maureen, > My Dan doctor says that the benefits of VSL3 out way the fact that it is > illegal on SCD. > > So my son takes it with the diet. The VSL#3 is illegal, because it contains bifidum bacteria. Bifidum bacteria have caused serious flares and setbacks for many SCDers. VSL#3 specifically has been the cause of many of these flares. SCD starves out harmful microbes and the bifidum bacteria tend to overgrow - they are opportunistic. Since we don't want any one microbe to overgrow, because no imbalance is good, we stick to the friendlier bacteria that foster a varied healthy microbial community in the gut (L. acidophilus in probiotics, yogurt bacteria, fermented food bacteria etc..). Guest guest
That same product has caused terrific setbacks for a number of people. Unfortunately, many of the well-intentioned DAN doctors do not fully understand SCD and the possible repercussions of an illegal. Possibly, a better compromise would be for the DAN to help you find the same strains he/she wants you to use (still illegal.... all the bifidus strains) but at least without the cornstarch that the VSL#3 has in it. I just don't get why they need to add that as a filler. And I don't quite understand why a DAN doctor who prescribes SCD for his/her patients would say that it's okay to do " mostly " SCD.... in other words, SCD but with a little bit of corn starch every day. Knowing the science behind the diet, that just doesn't compute for me. But, anyway.... You will invest at least $75 to try VSL#3. All we can advise is to PLEASE be prepared to pull it if your child is one of those who does not respond well to it.
