Guest guest
Remember, you only need to do intro for two days or so. You can cautiously begin adding back the nut bread after that. You *might* want to try baking bread with nut butter instead of nut flour... at first.... if you're having any gut distress or stool problems. Patti Re: Intro Diet Thank you, Patti. I appreciate the feedback. Sometimes I feel like an absolute idiot. I've read the book and I guess hanging on to the nut bread was some sort of way for me to believe I was filling myself up more and not feeling completely " breadless " ...lol. I now realize how important patience is when we do this. I apologize if I ask questions that might have been asked before but sometimes mornings are my worry time (bathroom and all that). I appreciate your patience very much. Thanks again. Ronnie Recent Activity a.. 20New Members Visit Your Group
Guest guest
Ronnie, Have you tried pecan butter? I haven't found any in the stores yet, but I am going to make some. As I've discovered through the list, many people say that it is more easily tolerated than other nuts. Carol gave instructions a little while back. It's 1 cup of pecans and 1 Tbsp. of oil. Blend it until smooth in a food processer. Meleah scd 05/06 iel 3yrs., asd Ethan 5yrs., Mark 1yr. Re: Intro Diet > >> >> Thank you, Patti. I appreciate the feedback. Guest guest
Hi, did anybody answered you about picking up where you left after the intro diet?. This has also been my concern. Whenever one of our variables fails, we go back to the intro diet for two days and we are never sure whether it is OK to feed her for example almond bread, which she was apparently tolerating well. Never knew whether it was tolerated because of under Prednisone or because she was sufficiently healed. Araceli Anya 4 y.o. Guest guest
All of the foods that you listed for intro are fine. You can boil or steam the carrots. The main concern is that they are well cooked. You may use a bit of oil, but broiling is actually like grilling. You can grill the meat, or broil it. Your oven will have a setting for broil just like it does for baking. The heat coils for broiling are at the top of the oven's interior instead of the bottom. You would need a broiler pan...you can get this anywhere...WalMart, Target, Kmart, ect...and place the broiler pan on the top oven rack. Typically, you want your food about 4-5 inches from the heat when broiling. Make sure that you are using a legal juice like Welch's 100% grape juice or fresh apple cider. As for the bananas loosening up the stools, one of the moderators can better advise you about whether or not to pull them. Meleah scd 05/06 iel 3.5yrs. asd, Ethan 5yrs., Mark 18mths., both nt Re: Intro Diet I started the diet some days ago and would like to ask you others about an easier way to list the intro diet. Is for example this, correct?: Chicken, boiled or broiled Ground meat, boiled or broiled Fish, boiled or broiled Carrot, well done (boiling) Eggs, any style Juice, as described in the book, mixed 50% water (should it continue beeing water-mixed after intro?) Gelatin Is it allowed to use some oil to broil the meats/fish in, on the intro? I´m not sure what you mean by broiling? Is it like everyday-cooking with a little bit of fat in a pan, on the stove? (pancakes, meat balls etc) or have I got it wrong? We have started the very ripe bananas with just a little bit the first day (after 4 days intro). Stool has been more loose than during the intro (and I can see the parts as usual). Should we take the bananas off, or continue and wait for the stool to tighten up? Talking about kids (3-5 years) on the intro diet, how have you others been thinking about the carbs they need for the brain, if they do NOT eat the carrots? We had some trouble with that. I have to say I found a Brilliant recipe on nut free dairy free bread here under " files " . Wonderful. Thank you in advance for your help, Lotta For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and http://www.pecanbread.com
Guest guest
Lotta, I'm looking this over very quickly, but it looks like you have it pretty close.... Although, it is my understanding that the beef patty and/or fish are to be broiled. The chicken is cooked in the soup for intro, though I guess it could be broiled.... not sure why not. I've done the intro diet twice with my daughter.... and both times for only two days. I had such a huge pot of soup, with all the chicken I included in it, that it never occurred to me to need to cook any more chicken for that short a time. Broiling means setting the meat on a rack in the oven, under the broiler element.... so that any excess fat drains away. I think the method of cooking on the stove top, in " a little fat " , would be frying or sauteeing. To broil, you don't need any added fat.... and it's generally not intended to use added fat on intro. I suppose just a slight coating of a light olive oil on a piece of fish could be used, if really needed.... but I've never added any kind of fat to broil a steak or a piece of fish. You wrote: <<We have started the very ripe bananas with just a little bit the first day (after 4 days intro). Stool has been more loose than during the intro (and I can see the parts as usual). Should we take the bananas off, or continue and wait for the stool to tighten up?>> O-kayyyyy..... so you have already done the intro diet? I thought you were asking about what foods to do on intro because you were about to start it. ?? It does not seem unusual that you saw looser stools on intro.... the body sort of " clears out " ... and you may have some bacterial die-off, too... that could cause looser stools. At this point, I don't know if you can say that the ripe banana is causing the looser stool.... since it could be from die-off. You could pull it if you want to and see what happens, but you do need to be prepared for big changes, and the possibility that the child will not feel well, in the beginning... sometimes for a few weeks. Everything is changing over from a very different type of digestion. <<Talking about kids (3-5 years) on the intro diet, how have you others been thinking about the carbs they need for the brain, if they do NOT eat the carrots? We had some trouble with that.>> There are some ideas on the www.pecanbread.com website under " Overcoming Difficulties " , for " picky eaters " .... and in the recipe section, there are some " sneaky " recipes for getting pureed veggies baked into meatballs, pancakes, etc..... and other ways to hide healthy veggies. If your kids truly do not tolerate carrots, you can use something like butternut squash.... which is usually well tolerated and is a good carb source.
