I'm sorry to hear that you really did not do the proper intro diet the

first time. Nut bread is definitely not part of intro.

I imagine all of these feelings and symptoms you are having could be

considered quite normal for someone just starting SCD. You're starting

from square one, really.

We don't have a special set of symptoms that are experienced by people

who are doing the intro a " second time " , but you are actually doing it

for the FIRST time right now... since you included foods that aren't

on intro the other time.

Ronnie,

The next time you are ready to try baking with nuts, make the basic muffin

recipe on page

122 of BTVC using Pecans instead of other nuts. Use the mini muffin tins. I am

not sure

where you can get small liners. This makes a delectable muffin. If you make the

regular

size just cut them in half. They freeze well are delicious. Remember Elaine's

warning not to

consume too many nut goods. I won't bother quoting that page number as i know

you

trust me :-)

Tumpa,

The intro diet is very specific. Almond flour is NOT included on intro.

Broccoli is also NOT part of intro. Do you have the book?

The section on www.pecanbread.com on " ASD Intro " under the " Food Preparation "

link will give you ideas of foods to use for this very brief period that will be

compliant with SCD intro.

intro diet

Can someone give me an example of thier intro diet?

We just officially started yesterday:

Breakfast: Almond flour pancakes

Lunch: hamburger patties and brocolli

Dinner: Grain free gourmet 7 layer zucchini lasagna

Dessert: baked apples with honey.

Drink: water, apple cider

He has also eaten some cheddar cheese curds and I am currently making some

yogurt in my yogurmet machine.

Am I giving him too much too soon?

Also, I am in Calgary Alberta Canada and cannot find dccc anywhere. I have

tried some health food markets, Safeway and CO-OP.

Thanks,

Tumpa Reinhardt

The almond flour pancakes, broccoli, zucchini (not sure what else is in

the lasagna), baked apples, honey and cheese, are all not allowed on the

intro diet to my understanding.

Click here http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html then click " ASD Intro

Diet " to see what is allowed.

It seems very limited, but it's well worth it from what we experienced!

Hi Tumpa,

The intro diet is a " bare bones " diet that feeds the body while

starving out the harmful microbes. The intro is on page 69 10

edition of BTVC. You can also find it at

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/beginners.htm

At http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro you can find some ideas

on how to present the intro foods to keep it interesting for

children (meatballs, jello shapes etc..). This is the dairy free

version of the intro but I include it here because it may help.

Thye foods you list below although legal aren't on the intro diet-

they are for after the intro when some healing has occured. The

paragraphs below the intro on page 69 help explain about how and

when to introduce other legal foods.

Hi,

I do have the book and have read it. I must be losing my mind because I

thought that as long as all fruits and veggies were cooked it was ok.

Thanks..I must sound insane to you, I 'm sorry!

I did look on the pecanbread beginners guide. Since DCCC is allowed and so

are eggs can he eat the souffle bread (there is no almond flour in it ) in

the intro diet?.

Do this diet for two days (he does not have diarhea ) and then add all

cooked veggies and fruits that he can tolerate right?

Wish me luck!

The SCD intro diet is outlined in the chapter titled " Introducing the Diet " , in

Breaking the Vicious Cycle. There is a menu, with very specific foods to be

eaten for the first two to five days (two days is usually fine if the individual

does not have severe diarrhea).

In my book (ninth edition) it's Chapter 8, and page 51 ... though I know it may

be different if you have the later edition.

The ASD Intro section on the pecanbread.com website gives you some variations

that are acceptable.

Yes, after two days on intro, you can begin introducing peeled and cooked

veggies, and other foods. Take a look at the " Stages " chart on pecanbread.com

under the " Food Preparation " link.... scroll down past the section on the intro

diet. It will give you an idea of what foods are generally easier to digest.

You do not have to stick strictly to these stages, but it is a general

guideline.

Introducing one new food at a time will give you a better idea of what foods

your child can digest/tolerate. Just as a sidenote: Broccoli is in the cabbage

family, and is not usually recommended until one has been on the diet longer.

It's not a beginner food.

Thanks Patti,

I just really sat down and read it (without kids hanging all over me). It

all makes sense. I just set out my menu for the week.

If all goes planned this should not be too stressful!

I am very thankful for your patience with me.

Thanks,

Tumpa

The ripe banana is legal but not on the intro. That would be next after it

though.

I would use the Foreman Grill as it gets rid of all that grease and fat which is

what broiling does too. I don't see why you can't use it.

Perhaps wait with the grilled chicken until just after the intro diet and just

stick with the intro. I know chicken is in the soup but I find that sometimes in

different places things react differently.

Just my 0.02. Hope it helps, Charlene

We are going to revisit the intro diet this weekend, and I want to get

a few things clarified. Are ripe bananas legal or not?

Also, is using a Foreman grill comparable to broiling (for making a

beef patty)?

Finally, when we did the intro diet 3.5 months ago, I grilled chicken

breasts on the Foreman grill. I did this because chicken is allowed

in the soup (I also made the soup and it wasn't a hit). Was that a no-

no?

Thanks for helping me.

Does this mean that we need to start over, completely? I was planning to do the

intro 1-2 days, and then pick up where we left off, which is somewhere between

phase 1 and 2. For instance, with the squash, green beans, cooked apples,

cinnamon, honey, etc.

I think that you will still need to go slow.

I started the diet some days ago and would like to ask you others

about an easier way to list the intro diet. Is for example this, correct?:

Chicken, boiled or broiled

Ground meat, boiled or broiled

Fish, boiled or broiled

Carrot, well done (boiling)

Eggs, any style

Juice, as described in the book, mixed 50% water (should it continue

beeing water-mixed after intro?)

Gelatin

Is it allowed to use some oil to broil the meats/fish in, on the

intro? I´m not sure what you mean by broiling? Is it like

everyday-cooking with a little bit of fat in a pan, on the stove?

(pancakes, meat balls etc) or have I got it wrong?

We have started the very ripe bananas with just a little bit the first

day (after 4 days intro). Stool has been more loose than during the

intro (and I can see the parts as usual). Should we take the bananas

off, or continue and wait for the stool to tighten up?

Talking about kids (3-5 years) on the intro diet, how have you others

been thinking about the carbs they need for the brain, if they do NOT

eat the carrots? We had some trouble with that.

I have to say I found a Brilliant recipe on nut free dairy free bread

here under " files " . Wonderful.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Lotta

Hi Eileen,

I haven't had diarrhea for a while since being off grains, dairy, eggs and nuts. I

officially started SCD yesterday but had onions and zuccini.

Thanks,
