Guest guest
Thank you so much for your answers. About the banana and stool, (sorry for details but I guess they are quite common on this page...) I know it´s the banana because I recognize the parts of them, with a lot of small balls looking like they were covered with spiders with many legs, some strings from the fruit I guess. She´s not very intensly chewing...I think about convincing her to mash it and it might be more completely taken up. We would be sorry in this moment to take the banana off. Should the juice be diluted 50% all through the diet or just during the intro? When is it possible to start with honey? regards from Sweden > <<We have started the very ripe bananas with just a little bit the first > day (after 4 days intro). I thought you were asking about what foods to do on intro because you were about to start it. ?? It does not seem unusual that you saw looser stools on intro.... the body sort of " clears out " ... and you may have some bacterial die-off, too... that could cause looser stools. At this point, I don't know if you can say that the ripe banana is causing the looser stool.... since it could be from die-off. You could pull it if you want to and see what happens, but you do need to be prepared for big changes, and the possibility that the child will not feel well, in the beginning... sometimes for a few weeks. Everything is changing over from a very different type of digestion. > > <<Talking about kids (3-5 years) on the intro diet, how have you others > been thinking about the carbs they need for the brain, if they do NOT > eat the carrots? Guest guest
I also think it's more likely the loose stools... and the " spidery " looking stuff is die-off related. If the gut is pretty damaged, I'm not surprised that undigested food would be coming through, if the child doesn't chew well.... but I do think that the stringy stuff could be dead bacteria/yeast... rather than just banana. By the way, ripe banana *usually* tends to be more " binding " ..... in other words, firms up the stool, rather than the opposite. I also think you should pretty much be diluting the juice for quite some time to come. I am not a big fan of juice as a drink for kids at ALL..... as I think it's just too high in natural sugars and takes away their appetite for other foods. I'd prefer to see a kid drinking just water.... or lemonade made with fresh lemon juice and honey.... or saccharin. Patti Banana/dilution/honey Thank you so much for your answers About the banana and loosening-up stool, (sorry for details but I guess they are quite common on this page.. During the 4 days intro we saw formed stools which is NOT common here. After including banana (yes very ripe) slowly, stool has gone back to diarrea. I know it´s the banana because I recognize the parts of them, with a lot of small balls looking like they were covered with spiders with many legs, some strings from the fruit I guess. Should the juice be diluted 50% all through the diet or just during the intro? When is it possible to start with honey, and with coconut milk? The last, does it go under nut milk stage 2, although its not a nut? regards from Lotta, Sweden (thats why spelling is...) family SCD 1 week incl intro. daughter asd
Guest guest
Hi Lotta, > About the banana and loosening-up stool, (sorry for details but I > guess they are quite common on this page.. > During the 4 days intro we saw formed stools which is NOT common here. > After including banana (yes very ripe) slowly, stool has gone back to > diarrea. How many ripe bananas is she eating per day? Is she eating the banana all at once or is it spread out throughout the day. It may be that she doesn't tolerate bananas even very ripe ones yet or that she is having die off. If you remove the bananas for 2-3 days and the stools return to good formed stools that would point to not being ready for the banana. There could be any number of reasons for this. How are her stools now? > She´s not very intensly chewing...I think about convincing her to mash > it and it might be more completely taken up. You could make a fruit smoothie with the ripe banana if you are going to continue with it. In a blender add water and banana and blend until smooth. Ad just enough water to make it drinkable. > We would be sorry in this moment to take the banana off. What do you > think? If the diarrhea continues you may want to try removing it for a couple of days to see if she isn't tolerating it. > Should the juice be diluted 50% all through the diet or just during > the intro? The legal juices should be diluted for *at least* the first month. At 5.5 years into the diet when I have juices I still dilute them. > When is it possible to start with honey, and with coconut milk? The > last, does it go under nut milk stage 2, although its not a nut? The honey can be slowly added after the intro. If you are experimenting with banana I would wait until you have a better idea if she tolerates that first before trying the honey. (Make sure you have clear, pure honey) Coconut milk can be tried after the intro also. I'd also suggest waiting until you get the banana issue sorted out. When you start the homemade coconut milk it should be diluted and start small and slowly work up the amounts over a week or two. Coconut milk may cause more die off - and you don't want to confuse further die off with intolerance of the coconut milk. > regards from Lotta, Sweden (thats why spelling is...) Your spelling is great Let me know if some of the comments above are not clear. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 22yrs mom of and
