Guest guest
* Andi, hi, My son LJ has been GFCF for almost 18 months now and doing fantastic. He also has many, many food allergies and this diet is still going good. As a milk replacement we use Dari-free which is a potato based beverage, as LJ also can't have rice or soy. So I make all his waffles. pancakes, cookies, cakes, etc. His rice allergy is only a class 1 so I do use products that have rice flour occasionally, but we avoid eating the rice or drinking the rice beverage. Miss Robens is a online place to order and also has a fantastic, easy to understand catalog that list each and every product, their ingredients and what it is free of. Call 1- and get yourself a catalog or go online at www.missroben.com , but I prefer the catalog sales. She has cake and cookie mixes, premade cookies and crackers, condiments, Dari-free, vitamins, pastas, etc. Alot of recipes are posted on this list and if a recipe calls for rice flour you just substitute in some sorghum flour and tapioca mix. Remember you can make basic meat and potato meals till you get this diet thing down pat. in New York (LJs mom) * On Wed, 10 Oct 2001 16:17:06 -0000 adrinkwi@... writes: My son tested sensitive to 24 items. Pecans are often the easiest to tolerate for those beginning the diet. > I am not the best " baker " and this worries me about doing this. The list of legal commercial juices : Here's a list of legal commercial juices: -Tropicana Pure premium OJ -Dole pineapple juice -Heinz and 's Tomato juice -The Knudsen's *Just Juice* line (not the rest of their products): Just Black Cherry Just Blueberry Just Cranberry Just Pomegranate Organic Just Concord Grape Organic Just Tart Cherry -Kedeem grape juice -Welch's 100% Grape juice (Red, Purple and white) Also, some use homemade nut milks to replace rice milk (coconut milk etc...). Recipes to make nutmilks are also at http://pecanbread.com/recipes.html If you decide to try yogurt (goat, cow, sheep...) the yogurt can be made into a yogurt smoothie for drinking. The structure of casein changes and is easier to digest when milk is made into yogurt. It go from a 3 dimensional structure to a 2 dimensional structure. Guest guest
Hi Lana, I'm not sure if we can help you. We do not recommend the LOD here. Our list is strictly for helping people do SCD.... and we're especially oriented to children on the diet. <<What do you eat for " sick food " ? I can't have toast with butter, and with rice being so starchy... I'm kind of at a loss. >> Um..... rice is not a food we can eat on SCD at all. Have you read the book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle? <<Are there any combined SCD/LOD food lists? I have found very few, and they arn't very detailed. (I don't mind if the lists contain gluten and casein containing items, as I am now used to GFCF.)>> Any list of SCD legal foods would not contain any gluten at all.... since SCD is a completely gluten free (grain free) diet. Avoiding casein while on SCD is a personal choice, but dairy is allowed in the form of SCD yogurt and/or legal cheeses. No one has to eat dairy if they are sensitive to it. We don't focus on " yeast free " diet restrictions here... but some people do limit honey and fruits in the beginning of SCD. Patti
Guest guest
New with Questions Hello all! My name is Lana and I am an avid listgoer. (Hi to all those who share my other lists!) I am GFCF, have been for at least 6 months now. I was YF the entire time until recently, when I started being more concerned with my weight than yeast. Biiiiiiiigggg mistake. While I gained about 8 lbs in practically no time, I've already lost half of it due to a bout of what I figure must be yeast. I feel disoriented, overstuffed (even though I haven't eaten today), gassy and just plain blah. I remember this feeling from before I went YF. I've been considering going SCD for a while, but nothing really convinced me to do it until now. I haven't felt this bad in months! To top it off, being GFCF resulted in me eating a lot of high oxalate grains, so I am now going LOD at the same time. My questions: What do you eat for " sick food " ? I can't have toast with butter, and with rice being so starchy... I'm kind of at a loss. The only thing I can get myself to eat is sauerkraut. Ideas? Are there any combined SCD/LOD food lists? I have found very few, and they arn't very detailed. (I don't mind if the lists contain gluten and casein containing items, as I am now used to GFCF.) Is there anything I can do to alleviate the symptoms I am experiencing? I'm definately going to be changing my diet, but I would like to function until I have done that successfully... Thanks! -Lana Dear Lana, You have posed some interesting questions which I will try my best to answer but I also have some for you :-) I will say we do not combine SCD with other diets. It would defeat it efficacy. SCD on its own has proved very successful for addressing gastric issues and ASD. I would like to suggest you read the two websites cited in the message which welcomed you to the list. 1.Do you have a diagnosis? 2. Have you read Breaking the Vicious Cycle which explains SCD? 3. GFCF differs from SCD. We don't use rice or grain as both can foster the growth of harmful intestinal pathogens. 3. SCD allows clearly identified dairy products which are made and aged so the lactose is consumed and the casein denatured. 4. Original attempts to combine LOD and SCD led us to extensive research revealing why combining them is ill advised in most all cases. (There will shortly be a link posted to our website including the findings and recommendations. 5. If you subscribe to many other lists you may confuse symptoms, issues and suggested procedures. 6. Were you upset from gaining weight and is that an issue? SCD is nit a weight loss diet. Carol F. Guest guest
Hi My name is Marissa and we are new to all of this we started last week after this life plan was introduced to us by my sons neurodevelopmentalist . Jordan is 10 and has Down Syndrome we have not had him tested yet but from experience they believe he has a yeast overgrowth and many of these kids have absorbortion issues I have been having IBS with several others symptoms for some time now We had been following what we believed to be a good diet but it was filled with grains and since stopping all of that last week I have to say that I have had not one symptom and feel great . I have learned a lot so far but I am overwhelmed and I really want to get this right we have gone through all the cabinets and cleaned out all that we can't have against the decision of my 2 other children and my slightly hesitant husband. This is a really exciting thing for me I am struggling with snacks to give Jordan He is really being great about this and is such a good sport We both crave the cruncy foods like pretzels . we both enjoy yogurt and I want to make it myself but am not sure what unit to buy. I like the individual containers and auto shut off of some models before I purchase one I wanted to know what was the best one to get from others peoples experience Any info will be helpful and appreciated Thanks for being there Marissa
Guest guest
Welcome, Marissa.... Just a quick response about the yogurt makers. If there are two of you on the diet, I think you'll eventually find yourself easily going through 2 quarts of yogurt per week.... so I honestly think you'd want one with a larger single batch container. I love my Yogourmet, with extra batch container so I can start another batch before the last one is completely gone. As far as auto shut-off.... I don't think you will want one with that feature. We need to ferment SCD yogurt for a full 24 hrs, and most yogurt makers will auto shut-off at probably 6 or 8 hrs.
