First, sorry to hear of all the problems you're having. Next, I

have a few suggestions as we've been down this road not too long

ago. Request a c-diff toxin stool test from your ped or pulmo.

Next, talk to your GI about starting Ashton on Culturelle GG. It's

the only culture that's been proven to be live. Some pharmacies

have it in stock, but you might have to order it online. Try

www.culturelle.com for more information. For his butt right now...

ask your ped about getting an RX for butt paste. It's a mix the

pharmasist can make up for you. Don't wipe it all off when he

poops, just wipe the top layer off that got soiled. Put a layer of

Criticade ointment on top of the butt paste. The criticade works

more like a barrier so when he poops, he's not burned right away.

Also, use soft cloth diapers instead of the diaper wipes - at least

until he's not broken down. When he heals up, you can continue to

put a thin layer of Criticade on for preventative measures. Again,

I'm so sorry. I hope you guys get over this soon. Keep us posted on

how he's doing.

My daughter had the same problems from being on Cipro and her doc prescribed

Nystatin ointment for her rash, once we started using that her rash cleared up

in a couple of days. I would ask his doctor to call some in for you to use, it

is GREAT!!!!

Hope this helps!!!!!!

Also, make sure that it is not enterococcus, which can be treated with Cipro!

Been through both! Cheers! n, who really feels for anyone with this one!

OOOHHH poor baby! got that diarrhea/rash thing whenever on Augmentin and

it was even worse on Cipro. I used special " Rash care " wipes, then I used to

slather her with diaper cream and then on top of it I would slather vasoline.

At least all those layers offered a bit of protection from the bleeding and the

sores. Try putting vasoline on top of the cream you are using, it might help a

bit.

the only real cure is to get them off the antibiotics that cause this reaction.

I would ask at CF clinic if they could try another antibiotic. The ones that he

is on don't seem to be doing the trick if he has been off and on them for that

long.

I hope this helps.

diarhea from antibiotics--help!

My almost 3 yr old has been on and off oral antibiotics (zithromax

and augmentin) for several months for sinus and ear infections. He

has really bad diarhea and he is supposed to be on the augmentin for

10 more days. He is still in diapers and if we don't change a poopy

diaper within seconds, his butt starts to bleed. We are blow drying

his bottom at every diaper change and using Triple Care diaper creme

(super thick). He is exclusively g-tube fed and we are giving him

about 4 teaspoons of liquid acidophilous every day. I started mixing

a little (2 tablespoons) rice cereal 2 times a day through his g-

tube. Does anyone have any other ideas? His poor little bottom

looks like he has third degree burns.

Thanks!!

OH, I forgot about the antifungal cream nystatin. I used that in place of the

regular diaper cream and sometimes before it. it did help some .
