Guest guest
I am so glad to hear that your son has made great progress with SCD! Do try the yogurt but please start out with small doses;such as 1/10 of a teaspoon. Below are quotes from Elaine and a research article about how yogurt helps decrease allergies. Mimi http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/abstract/129/7/1492S Yogurt helps immune function, decreases allergies and prevents the increase of cholesterol. Here are Elaine's comments regarding allergies: Allergies If the allergy test stated " cow's milk " , then it would not apply to goat's milk. However, over the 45 years I have been involved with allergy testing, I have found it to be very, very inaccurate. I am not saying that one should ignore it all, but as a child remains on SCD, the allergies fade away. I remember case after case of people getting well on SCD and feeling that they wanted doctor supervision to give them support nonetheless. During the first few years, I recommended some holistic doctors who appeared to support my work. Invariably, the patient would call back in tears. Why! Because they were showing tremendous improvement on SCD and they were testing positive to all the foods they had been eating and upon which they were getting well. .. ***************************************************** Just let me add my two cents. With all due credit to the allergists (they were the first in the medical profession to look at food as the culprit in so many disorders), they, for some reason (not scientific) decided that allergies are based on proteins (and parts of proteins like peptides). Therefore, all that emerged from them for the last 25 years had to fall into the gluten (protein) and casein (protein) categories. They stuck to their guns in spite of the growing body of evidence which showed us about autoimmunity and the role of bacteria in creating the autoimmune condition. And the role of feeding these bacteria and yeast on a surplus of carbohydrates in the incubation tank of the gut (the colon). > my ASD 2 1/2 yr old just got the sage allergy report back. he is > allergic to 36 items which are all the foods i just got him hooked on > with scd (pears, chicken and orange juice). he can't have most meats > and fish (with the exception of shell fish). he will eat apples > luckily so i will have to go through the items that they say he does > not have delayed allergic reactions to and see which ones are scd > legal then test them out. i am not sure how i am going to do it since > he does not like most of the ok items. for 6 wks i can not give him > any of one at a time every 4 days on a rotation basis to see how he > reacts once the gutt is more healed. > > he is allergic to milk & casien. is it ok to give him elaine's yogurt? > now my son can only drink welch's grape juice. i need more beverage > options. can i give him the dole's 100% pineapple juice not from > concentrate which has dl alpha tocopherol acetate (vitE) and vit A > palmitate? i still can't find an apple cider that is legal. which > brands of apple cider are legal? > the knudsen cranberry is so tart. any ideas for making it more > drinkable? the test did not test for honey so i am not sure if i can > use it or not. > > i had to switch to peach flavor arctic cod liver oil since the one i > bought was natural orange. just wanted to make sure it is ok to give > him cod liver oil if he is allergic to codfish. kirkmans said that it > is just the fat and the allergy usually comes from the protien in the > cod so it probably is safe. > > it is interesting how my son got hooked on the new foods that would > give him an opiod high. hopefully, we will see even more dramatic > changes once those other items are removed. b12, glutaphione, > melatonine and all the other supplements seem to be making a > difference. he said 4 words, is more content, focused and stimming > less. my home has become therapy central and i don't get any sleep. i > had my relatives batch cook for me this weekend, freeze and label tons > of pears and chicken stock so i would be a week ahead then i found out > he can't eat any it. so here we go again.... > > i just wish we had done this allergy test before we started on the > scd. i think dan doctors should recommend that first. i am sure my 5 > month old twins are allergic to milk and casien too. they have a > wheezy stuffed up nose all the time, spit up alot and have a lot of > unexplained fussiness. so i plan on getting the food allergy test for > them before i introduce any foods into their tiny bodies. > i still can not find a formula that they can tolerate. > > > > > >
Guest guest
Kids with leaky guts often get test results showing multiple sensitivities or allergies. Avoiding these foods is not part of SCD protocol.... but of course, you can eliminate any food you think you should.... or that your doctor tells you to. The only foods we are advised not to use at all are those that produce an obvious anaphylactic reaction. Those are out forever. <<he is allergic to milk & casien. is it ok to give him elaine's yogurt? >> If he has a TRUE ALLERGY to milk and casein, are you meaning to COW milk? What about goat? <<now my son can only drink welch's grape juice. i need more beverage options.>> What about lemonade? I squeeze fresh lemon juice into a glass of water and sweeten with honey. You could use saccharin, if honey is a problem. Are lemons on the " allergy list " ? Lime juice would work, too. <<can i give him the dole's 100% pineapple juice not from concentrate which has dl alpha tocopherol acetate (vitE) and vit A palmitate?>> Dole pineapple juice in the cans (not frozen) is legal. DILUTE, though. <<i still can't find an apple cider that is legal. which brands of apple cider are legal?>> There are no " brands " of legal cider. The ONLY kind of apple cider you can buy is the kind that is fresh-pressed.... like by a local farmer. You would find it in the refridgerated section of your store.... and it will be very cloudy, unfiltered. You might find this sort of cider at a local farmer's market, too. The easiest way around this is..... BUY A JUICER (mine was on a sale rack for $24)..... and stick fresh apple chunks down the chute. Fresh apple juice comes out the other end in seconds. Dilute and enjoy! <<the knudsen cranberry is so tart. any ideas for making it more drinkable? the test did not test for honey so i am not sure if i can use it or not.>> Saccharin. www.hermesetas.com It's legal and safe. <<i had to switch to peach flavor arctic cod liver oil>> I am honestly not sure the peach flavored one is legal. What EXACTLY does the label say? Why not just use the plain? You could follow it with a " chaser " of juice or something else that tastes good. Plus.... here's a secret that not everyone knows about cod liver oil.... It has absolutely NO TASTE at ALL.... IF your nose is plugged. Seriously. Try it! Take a big spoonful of CLO while holding your nose.... swallow it down. You won't taste a THING.... until you unplug your nose and take a breath. I do this myself... and just take a spoonful of applesauce or something immediately after swallowing the CLO, BEFORE I breathe through my nose. Unfortunately, this won't work with kids who can't hold their nose, or just don't understand.... or would resist you pinching their nose shut while feeding them CLO. Trust me... I've tried with Katera. She isn't able to understand why I'm doing it. So, I just follow hers with applesauce. I do use the orange flavor Nordic Naturals.... but I don't care what they flavor it with, it still tastes like FISH!! <<i just wish we had done this allergy test before we started on the scd. i think dan doctors should recommend that first.>> Well, there is a variety of opinions of how relevant these allergy tests are. I don't put much stock in them myself. I hope avoiding all these foods will actually help your son heal faster. I guess that's the point.... but I am suspicious that leaky gut kids will show positive for TONS of foods.... until that gut heals up. In the meantime..... you'd better find a way to sleep..... or you'll end up falling apart. <<i still can not find a formula that they can tolerate.>> I doubt that you will find one. Have you looked into donated breast milk banks? Human milk would sure be the most ideal.... if you can't nurse them yourself. Did someone else already suggest that? Too bad the days of " wet nurses " are long gone. Patti
Guest guest
Kirkman's is right that the cod liver oil should be fine with him. Unless someone lives near you, it is hard to give a brand name of apple cider because cider is usually from a local farm. Can I ask why you need more beverage choices? Before I realized that there was a legal orange juice, my son just drank water or diluted Welch's grape juice. You said that just about every food you were giving him came up positive on the allergy test. What foods can he have? Meleah scd 05/06 iel 3.5yrs. asd, Ethan 5yrs., Mark 18mths., both nt allergies to 36 foods! i have to start all over..... my ASD 2 1/2 yr old just got the sage allergy report back. he is allergic to 36 items which are all the foods i just got him hooked on with scd (pears, chicken and orange juice). he can't have most meats and fish (with the exception of shell fish). he will eat apples luckily so i will have to go through the items that they say he does not have delayed allergic reactions to and see which ones are scd legal then test them out. i am not sure how i am going to do it since he does not like most of the ok items. for 6 wks i can not give him any of one at a time every 4 days on a rotation basis to see how he reacts once the gutt is more healed. he is allergic to milk & casien. is it ok to give him elaine's yogurt? now my son can only drink welch's grape juice. i need more beverage options. can i give him the dole's 100% pineapple juice not from concentrate which has dl alpha tocopherol acetate (vitE) and vit A palmitate? i still can't find an apple cider that is legal. which brands of apple cider are legal? the knudsen cranberry is so tart. any ideas for making it more drinkable? the test did not test for honey so i am not sure if i can use it or not. i had to switch to peach flavor arctic cod liver oil since the one i bought was natural orange. just wanted to make sure it is ok to give him cod liver oil if he is allergic to codfish. kirkmans said that it is just the fat and the allergy usually comes from the protien in the cod so it probably is safe. it is interesting how my son got hooked on the new foods that would give him an opiod high. hopefully, we will see even more dramatic changes once those other items are removed. b12, glutaphione, melatonine and all the other supplements seem to be making a difference. he said 4 words, is more content, focused and stimming less. my home has become therapy central and i don't get any sleep. i had my relatives batch cook for me this weekend, freeze and label tons of pears and chicken stock so i would be a week ahead then i found out he can't eat any it. so here we go again.... i just wish we had done this allergy test before we started on the scd. i think dan doctors should recommend that first. i am sure my 5 month old twins are allergic to milk and casien too. they have a wheezy stuffed up nose all the time, spit up alot and have a lot of unexplained fussiness. so i plan on getting the food allergy test for them before i introduce any foods into their tiny bodies. i still can not find a formula that they can tolerate.
