I've restarted, and I need to know when and how to add in yogurt. I'm making a batch right now to have ready. I was going to attempt to stay on the intro diet for at least 2 days... if not 3 or 4 (Thankgiving's going to be tough this year). So... how do I introduce the yogurt? Is the probiotic(s) effective in yogurt cheese if I choose to eat it that way (non-cooked)? How much do I eat when I do start it? I'm remembering that I should probably start it on day five. Can I do the yogurt and the probiotic from Kirkmans? I need to order it if I need it. My poor baby doesn't seem to tolerate yeast well at all, and she's getting yeasty again so I want to get that under control. It's not bothering me at all. I don't know how what is going on with my body effects like it does, but it's pretty obvious (and it makes her really fussy). We don't have insurance right now or I'd be off getting another diflucan prescription. My dh became self employed and we're having a tough time getting health insurance because of my issues (i'm working on it, though). This time start with a small amount (1/8 tsp) of dripped 24 hour yogurt. Since you tolerated the cheesecake made with dripped yogurt cheese most likely you experienced die off. Epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal may help eliminate/reduce these die offsymptoms - which are often confused with no being able to tolerate it. It will be important to start very small and slowly increase the amounts to keep these uncomfioortable symptoms to a minimum. > Is the probiotic(s) effective in > yogurt cheese if I choose to eat it that way (non-cooked)? As long as you don't freeze or cook the dripped yogurt (yogurt cheese) the probiotic will be very effective - in fact it will be concentrated so it is doubly important to start with a small amount. > How much > do I eat when I do start it? Start with 1/8 tsp, do the epsom salt baths (if you are having die off symp.) and depending on your level of comfort increase it every few days by doubling it or if you are having too much die off skip a few days in between as your body cleans out the nasties etc. If you are unsure if your symptoms are intolerance or die off write into the list and describe them and we can try to help you decipher them. > I'm remembering that I should probably > start it on day five. Can I do the yogurt and the probiotic from > Kirkmans? I need to order it if I need it. If you are using the probiotic from Kirkman's that should be L. acidpophilus. Some yogurt starters contain this others don't ( The Progurt starter has L. casei not L. acidophilus) It is okay to use both yogurt and probiotics but if taking a probiotic powder/capsule Elaine caustioned on doing more than 3 billion CFU's/day (which can be split up 1.5 billion in the am and 1.5 billion CFU's in the pm. > My poor baby doesn't seem to tolerate yeast well at all, and she's > getting yeasty again so I want to get that under control. What symptoms does she have? Sheila, SCD, Feb. 2001, UC 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
Sheila, thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. > > My poor baby doesn't seem to tolerate yeast well at all, and she's > > getting yeasty again so I want to get that under control. It's not > > bothering me at all. What > symptoms does she have? She's breastfed, so is my toddler. Both have yeast rashes in the diaper area right now. Just red and puffy, no blisters. The toddler doesn't seem to care at all. The baby cries a lot when she's yeasty. Her rash is more raised and bumpy (whereas the toddler is just red). She also gets thrush (and that really bothers her, too). The first time she broke out, she was 2 weeks old and she actually looked like she had baby acne. I treated the thrush with genetian violet, and her face and diaper area cleared up. It would come back as soon as I'd get it cleared up, though. I treated her two more times, and she got a virus (fever) and so I took her into the doctor. The yeast was flared up, too, and so was her face. The doctor put us both on diflucan and I was amazed at how fast her " baby acne " totally cleared up, too. She's had a little bit of yeast issues since then, but when I started on the diet, she cleared up. She had thrush again last week (none on her face), and I used the genetian violet. It didn't totally take care of it, and she has the bumpy diaper rash back. She's been fussy, too. Oh, it doesn't seem to affect the toddler much at all, but she did have a few red bumps around her mouth for awhile when all the stuff was going on with the baby. I don't think she does now, though. Guest guest
Hi Christa, Since both are breastfed the yeast flare-up could be due to the crumb cake or pineapple (that you weren't able to tolerate). They're eating what comes through your breastmilk. I remember eating beans when breastfeeding (PreSCD) and my daughter was up crying all night with gas. That was a lesson learned the hard way. Once you get settled into the diet the yeast issues should clear up again for them. In the meantime, epsom salt baths may help with the rashes.
