Guest guest
we started this diet almost 3 mos ago. we took milk and gluten away from my son mid sept. he refused to eat anything but juice for 9 days when we 1st started scd but finally broke the fast. he lost 7# (from 32# to 25#) and is still skinny but is finally gaining back some weight. finally this week his diet is becoming more varied. after talking to a nutritionist we decided to try to add more hi- calorie protiens like navy beans and almond flour which we can hide in his applesauce with the eggs. we got the results from his IGG elisa allergy test back a few wks ago and found he was allergic (had antibodies) to 36 foods, additives and preservatives so we had to change his diet again. it turns out he was allergic to chicken, pearsauce and oj which he had been eating exclusively for almost 2 mos on scd. we had to change to applesauce, eggs and only welch's grape juice. we have since been able to add dole pineapple juice, spaghetti squash, berries, almond nut flour, eggland's best eggs and navy beans. i found a couple items listed on his safe list that he reacted badly to (potassium sorbate in cider and butternut squash) so i stopped adding those items. the best news is that my son is learning sign language and is starting to talk again. he said daddy, cookie, baby and tried to say thank-you. he can read every letter of the alphabet, tries to count to 10, makes more eye contact, will now look at the moon and did some pretend play (licked a plastic icecream cone and acted like a dog). he allows me to cover him with a blanket and is even trying to do animal sounds!! he is finally showing affection to his baby sisters after 6 months of wanting nothing to do with them and gave me a kiss. 3 months ago, my son was mute, banging his head into glass doors and floors, smearing diarhea on himself and walls, having meltdowns, tantrums and night terrors, twitching his eyes, flapping his arms, tongue hanging out, ate only potato chips, corn pops, milk and sweet potato babyfood in jars all of which he was allergic to and did all the typical stimming (lining up toys, walking on toes, etc.). he had loose stools since he was 18 mos old and now every one of them is solid. we are doing a combination of scd, supplements, b12 shots, melatonine, glutaphione, nystatin (which we discontinued after 5 wks), aba therapy, OT, ST & PT. without SCD none of these other therapies would be as effective. SCD has gotten him out of his opiate fog and brought him back to earth so he is able to learn. we have a long way to go but i now have hope! soon we are adding folinic acid and cellular zeolite. we might do ionic foot baths too. i just want to thank all the moderateurs and the other parents on the board for helping us through the intro part of the diet. you are our rescue angels! Guest guest
This is wonderful..thanks so much for the post!! We just started SCD for our son (4 yrs) who has a autism dx. We've made a lot of progress with other interventions and since starting the diet have really seen him regress. I spent 2 hours last night convincing my husband that we have to stay the course. I was glad to see your email this morning and show it too him it helped!! Thank you so much for taking the time to send it such a great update - it is very inspiring, especially to all the new families just starting out but also to us old timers .
