Guest guest
Meleah, We started our boys on SCD in June due to their Celiac diagnosis and extreme delays. On September 1, my husband, I , and four cats joined the boys on this diet. We did not want any chance of them accidentally getting the wrong kind of food (that includes cat food) and we got rid of every illegal food in our house. This is a completely SCD legal home. When I did this, I felt a sense of freedom. Every time before when I would cook a meal for me and my husband and then turn around and cook a meal for my two boys, I just had a fear that I was going to spill crumbs or some other way " cross contaminate " their food. My husband and I have been on SCD since September 1. We are feeling better than we have in our lives. We have both lost some weight, but more importantly we are feeling good and feeling good about feeding the whole family this very nutritious diet. I will pray for you as you make the decision to put the whole family on SCD. That is a big decision and a life altering one. But it is very much worth it. Guest guest
I never make two separate meals. That would be way too much work because I already cook so much for scd. However, we keep an occassional treat locked in the pantry, or have illegal foods when the kids are sleeping if someone send us home with something special. For example, we were sent home with leftover large pizza, half a cake, and a WalMart sack full of candy from our All Saints Day party. We went to a Fall Festival on Tues. night, and they served hotdogs, cotton candy, popcorn, and soda. We got to someone else's house, and eat what they serve us. As Antounette said, I must admit that I live to eat. I love good food, and I know that I have too much of an attachment to it. The toddler rarely actually consumes illegal food, but I am still nursing him. Obviously, he gets all of the illegals through me even though he eats mostly scd. iel, who we're doing the diet for, only eats scd. I feel kind of bad for Ethan because he's five now, and he's been exposed to all of the delicious treats out there. I do know that he'll be so much healthier to give them up, but I just feel bad for him. What I should do is think of it like I do with home schooling. I don't feel bad keeping him at home with me because I know that it's the better thing for him academicly, socially, and spiritually. I guess if he'd never been exposed to the sad, I wouldn't feel bad. I just hate to take it away from him. I know that it shouldn't factor into my decision because I should do what is in the best interest for my family. Now, I don't think I will get my husband to convert. He'll eat scd at home if that's what I have, but he won't turn down regular stuff if he's out. Of course, there will be the persecution from my family about us all doing the diet because we are really having financial trouble, and it is more expensive. I shouldn't let that bother me either. I am persecuted by various family members for home schooling, being Catholic, and a whole host of other things that they don't like. That sounds bad like I have a terrible family. Actually, they're wonderful people that just let you know if they think you're doing something that they disagree with. I was just thinking this morning, " Oh, if I could just have Patty, Marilyn, Carol, Antounette, ect. in a little local group to meet with so they could push me to do the right thing, it would be so great. " . I do have you guys right here. Like I said, I really need to pray for the strength to do this especially since we plan to have more children. I do know that it will be one of the best things during pregnancy and nursing to prevent future children falling into asd. Well, anyone who wants to pray for me by name to have the strength to do scd full throttle, please do. I'll keep you posted.
