Guest guest
Hi Listmates, I am so in need of help! My 4.9 y/o son Aidan has HFA and was never yeasty until valtrax was instituted 8 months ago. We have been CF/GF/SF IGG senstivites for 2 1/2 yrs and our DAN wants us to do SCD and I am all for it. My first question is Aidan takes his meds orally with organic non sweetened applesauce and I am guessing that that is a no no on the into diet. I have not received BTVC yet and would like to get going before school starts on wednesday so thats why I am here posting the questions. Also how long does he need to be on the intro? He is regular with his stools, has the typical bloated stomach, but no other GI symptoms to speak of. Lastly will this help his scripty language. In the morning before his gf/cf breakfast his language is great, after is when I will see some scripty stuff. Bear with me if my ignorance shows, this is a whole new frontier. Thanks in advance for any help. Sheila mom to Aidan 4.9 recovering from ASD
Guest guest
Sheila, The intro diet lasts between 2 and 5 days depending on the person. You definitely cannot use store bought applesauce. Applesauce is allowed, but you'll need to make it yourself. The book will explain the reasons behind this. How much have you read about scd? I know that you're anxious to get started, but if you don't start off on the right foot, you'll have to start all over again. You'll also need to check on whether his supplements and/or prescription medications have any ingredients that are n't allowed on scd; i.e. legal or illegal ingredients. If he's taking some that aren't scd legal, start checking into whether an alternative is available that is an scd legal. If an alternative isn't available, and he needs it, than he needs it. But, you want to give him legal ingredients at all costs. I don't know about the scripting, but I do have experience with increased language development for my 3 yr. old after starting scd. He is still scripting or echoing pretty frequently, but is also becoming more expressive independantly. I'm assuming that you ordered the book to be sent to your home. Is there a local bookstore that you can call to see if they have it in stock right now? I'd certainly check any bookstores in the area, and get it from them if they have it. Guest guest
Welcome, Sheila... Meleah gave you some great advice. I would really agree with her that you should not start this diet without having read the book. It's really an entirely different premise than GF/CF... and you need to have a thorough understanding of that or you're likely to make a lot of mistakes. Too bad your DAN doc couldn't have suggested SCD at the beginning of the summer, when you'd have had all that time to prepare and get started. Maybe Labor Day weekend would be a good time? He might feel a little yucky to start with, so... it's kind of nice to do intro over a break. You've gone to the website, I assume... www.pecanbread.com ... just read as much as you can there for now. Patti New with questions so please bear with me Hi Listmates, I am so in need of help!
