Over-correction?

Hi all,

My daughter Ava has been in hanger band for almost 5 months. She was

9 months when she got the band now 13.5 months. Overall her asymmetry

has gone from about 9mm to 3mm. We still notice, from a bird's eye

view in the tub, the ear asymmetry, so we've decided to keep the

helmet on for another 4 weeks in hopes of achieving a bit more

correction. However, tonight after her bath I noticed that the right

side of her forehead, which was the original side with the bossing, is

now the flat side. The left side of her forehead, which was a bit

sloped originally (though barely noticeable), now seems to protrude a

bit. I didn't notice this even last week and I tend to examine her

head pretty frequently. Do you think over-correction is possible?

It's weird though because she continues to have a red spot every night

on the original side that bossed, even though it now seems to protrude

less than the other side - how the heck is that possible? If it

protrudes out less, how does it still serve as the holding point? The

other side (original flat side, now protruding side) has had the foam

shaved out pretty much as far as it can be shaved, which is what made

me think over-correction. Any ideas?? Is it possible that it's just

some fluid build-up or something benign like that? Or maybe in the

attempts to align the ears, the forehead has come forward at a greater

rate than the ears? Part of me wants to stop the treatment now if

that's the case...I don't want to make the ears better at the expense

of the forehead!

I'll call our ortho on Monday for sure...but just wondering about your

thoughts. Thanks!

Did you get a hold of the ortho?

I'm not sure about " over correction " but I do know that if a band is

no longer fitting correctly it can cause the head to be mishappen. My

dd had a growth spurt that caused her head to get a circle ridge on

the top where the opening is. She still has it.
