Hi everybody!

Well I was doing pretty good there for a while, but for the past

month I've been having pancreas pain again. I had already stopped

all the meat/dairy, but now I'm just eating rice/fruit, etc.. and no

soy/beans, etc.. to help control the pain. and I'm back on the

percoset again. I'm open to any ideas you may have..

I have a gastroenterologist appointment on the 15th of June..

the doctors don't think there's much wrong because my lipase is low,

but it's lower than it could be because I've scaled my diet WAY back

and probably other reasons.

What do you have to do to get to where you have some healing and get

back to a normal lifestyle? i.e. eat normal food again. How come I

was doing so well for a while and then all of a sudden started

having problems, what did I do wrong? I was already really

restricted.

I honestly don't really understand this illness that much and

sometimes this is downright scary, but I'm doing much better than I

was 6 months ago..

I am SO THANKFUL for this forum.

Thanks

Rick

Rick: Please don't swear by anything I say on the subject as I am a

relative newbie myself. First of all, these enzymes with doctors in

my opinion are held in way too high esteem. By that I mean, there

are some here (including myself) where either the enzymes NEVER went

up or (like me) only went up slightly in the beginning and have

NEVER gone up again. And yet, I am going thru (hopefully) a phase

where I am having panc pain every day. But, the doctors really seem

to hold fast and steady in their belief that the enzymes MUST go up

in order for a person to be having problems with their pancreas. It

seems to me, that only the REALLY good gastro docs seem to know

otherwise. The GPs and even some of the gastro docs still seem to

think the enzymes are the end all, be all of the ability to diagnose

pancreatitis.

Having said that, I do think you're doing the right things with

respect to your diet in order to " help " control the pain (and I

stress control and only to a degree, at least in my limited

experience.)

As far as getting back to where you used to be.....well, that

would all be contingent I suppose on what exactly is wrong with your

pancreas, i.e., whether it's an inherited problem (structural defect

from birth if you will -- pancreas divisim) or whether there has

been actual damage to the panc from repeated attacks, etc., or

whether there is a blockage or stricture in one of the ducts. Have

the docs given you any indication of what they think the exact

problem with the panc is?

You are right though -- this is the BEST forum ever.

Take care and stay in touch
