Guest guest
Hello Heidi and Kimber, Thought I would write and tell you that I got my test results back today. My PCP says I am not diabetic. She says not even close. Put away the test strips. I was 5.8 and you need to be a 6.0 to be considered diabetic. Now that seems like an awfully closer number to me, but she says it's worlds away from being diabetic. What do you say? I am, however, hyperthyroid. That was high. She said she has seen higher, but it was high enough to make her concerned. She has put me on medicate to control it. She said that could have affected my blood sugar readings and that could also be why I haven't lost weight even while trying. My friend across the street said her husband has the same thing as me and he lost 45 pounds in 30 days once he started the medication and the thyroid was under control. Does anyone else know about that. Would like anyone's imput on any of this. Thanks, Sandy in Ca > >
Guest guest
Sandy, thanks for letting us know the results of your test. Sorry such a late reply, but I've had a pretty bad week and I am slowly feeling better. That's great that you aren't diabetic. and yes, problems with your thyroid can affect your bloodsugar. So can cortisone if you ever have a shot of that. As for the 5.8 vs. 6.0, well, I don't know how close it really is. I know that the new diabetic routine is to try and get the person to have a 6.0-7.0 range to have good control, as close to the normal range as possible. I'd just keep an eye on your strips if you start showing some of the symptoms AFTER you've got your thyroid under control. Mainly this is because, sooner or later, most people with CP end up with diabetes at some point. And yes, a hyper active thyroid can also make it impossible to lose weight no matter what you do. Just like an underactive thyroid can make it impossible for a person to gain weight no matter how much they eat. That's about all I really know about the thyroid. I know that they check mine about once a year because I've got a thick neck and evidently that can sometimes be a symptom of thyroid problems. So far, my thyroid come out okay in all the tests I've had. Check out what you can find about the thyroid on the internet. Good luck with the thyroid treatment and keep us updated on how you do. You're family and we like to know how you are doing. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
