Ricki: I can answer a couple of your questions because of my past

experience.

Yes there are other things that can cause elevated lipase and pain

that is the same as

pancreatitis.

Last November I was admitted to the hospital with a bloated abdomen

and in

excruciating pain. All the x-rays and CT scans pointed to it being a

perforated

duodenal ulcer. Even my lipase and WBC count were high. I was

treated with a naso-

gastric tube and

NPO for 8 days. A month later when the doctor did a gastroendoscope

it turned out

that there was no ulcer at all and never had been.

Even the MRCP has never shown anything.

Conclusion---I was told I have idiopathic CP, although I am still

waiting to have an

ERCP all these months later. I'm hoping my GI will do one soon

because I'm in pain

every day although it's not bad enough for painkillers. I want to

find out if there is

any damage or if they can find a cause.
