Here is something that is all too common :-(

SCD gets misinterpreted and unfortunately in high level organizations.

Recently I was alerted to a forthcoming article prepared for the

November issue of the CCFA magazine.

here is the link:

http://www.ccfa.org/about/news/scd

Here is my email to the author of the article, medical writer Debra

Gordon, copied also to CCFA

Dear Debra,

Do I recall you as a member of " Elaine's Children, " a support group for

SCD several years ago? At the time I was preparing an article for

Mothering Magazine and a Debra Gordon offered to help.

Your forthcoming article on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for the CCFA

magazine describes SCD as a low carb diet three times. This is

inaccurate and a common misconception, one that was also mistakenly

shared by a Dr. Hicks from the Gluten Free Casein Free Diet community

who had not read the book Breaking the Vicious Cycle.

SCD manipulates the food supply of gut bacteria by denying them sugars

and disaccharide starches and instead including monsaccharides which

are directly absorbed. There is no limit on the amount to be ingested.

If SCD were a low carb diet it would invite ketosis which would be

dangerous for the children who use it for autism.

CCFA has been reluctant to give credit to SCD in the past and it seems

very unscientific to describe the diet inaccurately.

As a friend and helper of the late Elaine Gottschall, I am committed to

preserve the integrity of her nearly fifty years of research.

Will you edit your article or is it set to go to press? Will letters to

the editor be accepted by the publication?

Best regards,

Carol Frilegh
