Guest guest
I only wish my daughter would talk that much to even give me the slightest hint as what is bothering her at times. I'm sorry that I cannot be of help though. Jenn & K Issues with daughter We've been SCD for a bit over 2 months now. My 4-1/2yr old daughter still talks about food way too often to be normal. She says she " misses " certain foods. She wishes junk foods were good for us. She talks about what foods she can & cannot eat all the time. She is going off other foods that are allowed that she used to like. She's also not potty trained & won't do it. Dh thinks it's a control issue now; I tend to agree. Eating disorders run in my family & can be partly an issue of control. I am fearing for her now since this diet seems to have affected her so much. I don't know why or what to do about it. I don't see any other changes, except we have some behaviorial difficulties with her now & then as well. Has anyone had these issues? Guest guest
Michele, It sounds to me like the bad bugs are still ruling her gut a bit. This will take time to go away. I know that the first three-four months on SCD all I did was think about the food I couldn't have and craved all the bad things. It will take time for the bad bugs to die and stop sending signals to her brain and stomach that she wants these foods. Charlene We've been SCD for a bit over 2 months now. Guest guest
That doesn't really apply to a 4yr old with a *bad* history of eating disorders in her family... Many parents on the list report their children have color and texture issues, are very picky or on the other hand starving all the time. I was not suggesting your 4 year old start SCD cooking experiments although there are simple recipes children can help with. LOL. Carol F. Guest guest
A lot of people with lifelong food issues such as obesity & /or eating disorders can trace their issues right back to a time in their childhood where they felt " hungry all the time " or had restrictions etc. Although I don't necessarily feel the diet is a problem, yet, I have reasonable cause for concern. Guest guest
, My daughter has a bad case of starch addiction. She craves starches for many months after restarting " strict SCD " . Forbidden foods is all that she can think about during that time. This goes away after several months. However, even one SCD illegal cracker can start the whole craving cycle again. This is so similar to alcohol addiction. There is even a name for it:auto brewery syndrome. It is caused by unabsorbed starches that produce alcohol in the gut. They are finding biological causes for anorexia but I do not remember the details. Anorexic kids feel better when they are starving. Could it that they feel better because they are avoiding foods that cause depression? Would they one day use SCD to control anorexia? I do not have enough evidence, this is just speculation.... I know that one of the risks for eating disorders is initial weight gain. Doing SCD prevents weight gain and yo yo dieting. My daughter craves food and eats all the time, yet she does not get fat while doing SCD;only when she manages to have major infractions. Had I not done SCD with her,I would have had a girl with weight problems and dieting obsessions. Guest guest
Her cravings don't sound as bad as mine - what you're describing sounds like me. I've been going batty craving starches ( & eating the nut flour products). It's been too tough for me to go without. I'm actually *gaining* weight, & I NEED to *lose* weight! I haven't had this tough a time on regular weight loss diets. :-( She's talking about it a lot, but she doesn't typically get many, if any, nut flour products after breakfast. She won't eat eggs or any other kind of protein for breakfast, though, so I'm stuck making waffles, pancakes, muffins etc for her to eat. Thanks, Michele > > > > > > I only wish my daughter would talk that much to even give me the > > slightest hint as what is bothering her at times. I'm sorry that I > > cannot be of help though.
