Guest guest
can anyone suggest a yoghurt maker and starter I can use? My daughter is using a dairy free diet, so I am going to start with the cashew nut yoghurt. Has anyone tried this? Does it work as the recipe suggests, or does it need adapting? How long does prepared yog. store in the fridge? What about freezer time? Since Amy has been on the diet for around 9 mths, do I still need to go slowly when introducing it? Guest guest
Hi , > can anyone suggest a yoghurt maker and starter I can use? If starting dairy free you can try the GI Prohealth yogurt starter. See http://pecanbread.com/goatyogurt.html#start Many like the Yogurmet yogurt maker, others use the salton yogurt maker. You can find two makers listed at http://www.giprohealth.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? Screen=CTGY & Store_Code=GIProHealth & Category_Code=YogurtMaker http://www.lucyskitchenshop.com/yogourmet.html (If in Canada you can order it from the company, let me know if you need their contact info) > My daughter > is using a dairy free diet, so I am going to start with the cashew nut yoghurt. > Has anyone tried this? Does it work as the recipe suggests, or does it need adapting? Please note that the recipe on the website for Cashew yogurt will shortly be changed to read " Cool to room temperature before adding the yogurt starter " . Very important if using the Yogurt starter with L. casei (The GI Prohealth dairy free starter). > How long does prepared yog. store in the fridge? It should have active bacteria for about two weeks, and be edible for about three weeks. > What about freezer time? A fridge freezer doesn't usually give as long a storage time as a stand up freezer. From http://muextension.missouri.edu/explore/miscpubs/mp0556_10.htm 1 month if plain. If you make nut yogurt ice cream that has fruit/sweetener (honey) it will last longer - up to 5 months > Since Amy has been on the diet for around 9 mths, do I still need to > go slowly when introducing it? Yes, because she still may experience some die off. If you start small and you see no symptoms you can easily increase the amounts, but if you start with a lot and she reacts it may take longer to regain lost ground. There are several easy-to-use electric yogurt makers on the market. Many people prefer the Lyo-San " Yogourmet " yogurt maker, available from SCDkitchen.com (aka Lucy's Kitchen Shop) (US), or Lakeland Plastics (UK). Carol F.
