I just have to say I commend you on making it three weeks with his unhappiness with the helmet! My son receives his December 1st and I have already forewarned everyone that if he is absolutely miserable and not getting any better by the end of that first week, his helmet is going in the closet for him to look at when he gets older! He is already such a high maintenance fussy baby I cant imagine him any worse then he is now. But thankfully I get some relief at night cause he always sleeps a solid 12 hours. I can only hope and pray that he will accept his helmet....Sorry this email response wasnt more motivational or helpful. I just would be ready to lose it as well if I were in your shoes! Sorry that your little guy is having such a hard time.- Cole gets his helmet really soon.

It's been three weeks since we got this helmet. We have been through

one adjustment. Basically, he doesn't like his helmet contrary to

what others say - he will accept it quickly. During the day, if I

hold him all the time, he is fine. I have to take it off when I

breastfeed him, and at night, if he has it on, he wakes up screaming,

sweating. (I bought him a cotton, comfortable outfit) If I'm lucky,

he will fall asleep, but he will cry every 30 minutes. It's been

stressful to me, my husband, and my three-year old son. My baby used

to sleep for nine hours from 6-3, then 3 hours after, but since we got

this helmet, he wakes up 3-4 times a night. It's very stressful, and

I have to choose our mental health or his plagio treatment.

We tried to put it on before he falls asleep (before feeding), and

sometimes it worked. But these days I put it on after he falls

asleep. Sometimes he stays asleep, but he will wake up crying right

away or 10 minutes later. Medical professionals just say I choose

what I have to do, and the only thing they can do is to tell me the

helmet has to be on for 20-23 hours a day.

I'm losing my patience, and I have been taking lots of "break" from

the helmet. I don't know if the baby's head's deformity is

progressing or getting better on its on. I started seeing some round

spots. Now I use a Japanese "futon" for babies, the mattress is a

little softer, but safe enough to be on the market, in case I can't

put the helmet on him.

please help - he is still screaming and my husband hasn't come home yet!

Sorry to hear your little one has not adjusted well to the helmet :-( How old is your son? What kind of helmet do you have? Have you talked to your ortho about he dislike for his helmet because maybe it doesn't fit properly and bothers or irritates him. Have you watched him when he is sleeping to see if any part of the helmet is digging into his head? Is he old enough to roll over or move around on his own? I give you a lot of credit for sticking it out this long. But I would be concerned too if he does't seem to be adjusting after 3 weeks. I would definitely speak to your ortho and see if they can adjust it, so it can be more comfortable, at least until he gets used to it. What is the severity of his plagio or brachy? Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Sorry to hear that! How old is your baby? If he's still at very young age and depending on how severe his deformity, there are other alternatives that works great as well. From personal experience, my baby is 5 months old and got moderate brachy. He is trying CST and seems working great for him. He also uses SleepCurve mattress, bumbo seat, and head support pillow. Most importantly, lots of repositioning and tummy times. We have been doing all these for about a month and a few people already saying his head is much more rounded (even still a long way to go). This is good motivation to keep me going. I mean my 1st choice would still be helmet but no specialist is available in where I live. So I decided to try other

alternatives. But every baby is different. If helmet doesn't work out for your baby, it's heart breaking to see him suffering everyday. If I were you, I would give it one more try and ask the specialist and see any adjustments can be done for the helmet and make your baby more comfy. If that really doesn't work out, it doesn't hurt to try other alternatives.

Good luck :)
