Guest guest
I just wanted to echo what other preops have been saying and that is thank you to all the postops who continue to give us information - good and bad. After all, as someone said we are adults making informed decisions. I do however take exception to the post that I just read from Mr. Lindstrom (not even sure why he is on the list actually) about the " experimental " procedure that is being done. The procedure itself is a Billroth II which is done hundreds if not thousands of times a day worldwide as are intestinal bypasses. The only thing even remotely " experimental " about it is as it applies to weight loss. I know there have been a lot of posts recently about slow weight loss and to be honest that is my worst fear (even though I know infections, leaks, etc. are also a possibility). I agree with le - I think you have to do everything within your power to make sure it works before you can evaluate the surgery's effectiveness for you. There are no guarantees in my life with the exception of the fact that if I stay this heavy I will die before my children have children and I don't want that! I still feel I am making a good, informed decision and am looking forward to beginning my new life on 10/04/00. on Surgery date 10/04/
Guest guest
Well said . I wanted to add that the Billroth II is the exact same proceedure that is done for ulcers, which it was originally developed for. There are surgeons all over the country who use it right now for that. As to Mr. Lindstrom, I think his presence here is evidence that Dr. R wants us to see all sides and know the risks. If he wanted to, he could certainly edit him off the list. The bottom line is that most of us here are at risk medically anyway and we have to make this decision for ourselves. There is no right or wrong and there is no guarantee! in Atlanta > I just wanted to echo what other preops have been saying and that is > thank you to all the postops who continue to give us information - > good and bad.
